I like that Disney states the specs for audio, i.e. 24-bit or 16-bit audio, and maybe SPHE home video releases could let us know the same.

They already say things like, "English PCM (uncompressed)" and I think that the "uncompressed" is a little redundant. It would be nice to maybe include the bit depth and sample rate to let us now what quality of uncompressed, lossless audio we're getting. Especially if SPHE decides to start using higher resolution audio on upcoming titles whether it's PCM or TrueHD/DTS-HD MA and even more so if there are multiple lossless audio codecs with differing resolutions on the same disc.

Just a thought...thanks.
Point taken.. I will pass this on...

With BD50's the more 24-bit audio tracks the happier we shall be.

I believe it is being considered for release later this year. The master quality is good to very good with the possible exception of one of the opening scenes.

Paidgeek,

Can you comment on the status of the re-issue of The Fifth Element, i.e. specs/release date? Will it just be issued as a special collector's 10 year anniversary edition? (maybe with some extras that don't have Luc Besson mysteriously missing from them like the last DVD release)

It's hard to believe this movie is 10 years old already... feels like I just saw it in theatres

Paidgeek,

I know that you can't provide details as to when titles are coming out before they are actually released, but I was wondering if there were any little tidbits you could leak to us regarding Bad Boys 2?

I've seen it on the Sony demo BD since December, and I was wondering if it was actually in production, or is it a title that could appear on BD one day.

i can't speak english:

there is plenty of discussion regarding t5e. paidgeek can't give us dates or anything like that due to not being in the scope of his work and that being part of marketing.

in post #93 you asked this question. here is paidgeek's response in post 95 https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...9&postcount=95

I was wondering if Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children is going to be released on Blu-Ray, and if you had any kind of release date.

It was announced late last year that a BD offering was in the future, at least in Japan, but no date for it was set at that time. It's hard to imagine that it wouldn't make it out this year. The thing is pure eye-candy.

I'm just hoping to hear some positive news on Blood+. Sony doesn't have a huge anime library but they have a couple of spectacular gems. With nothing in the North American market yet on the anime front, it's looking pretty sparse. Every studio I've talked with about it keeps coming back to the authoring costs.

Question

In regards to the PS3 analog AV multi out, Does the stereo SA-CD (DSD) signal pass DIRECTLY through a DSD to analog converter or does the DSD stereo signal gets converted to PCM then to analog.

If you can not answer this, do you know someone in the electronic engineering side who would and whom I could email with this question.

Also, I gather the SA-CD stereo/surround signal is converted to LPCM over the HDMI, Are there any plans to allow for a DSD signal to pass through HDMI, and plans of manufacturing AVRs capable of converting the DSD signal?

thanks for your help

Q: In regards to the PS3 analog AV multi out, Does the stereo SA-CD (DSD) signal pass DIRECTLY through a DSD to analog converter or does the DSD stereo signal gets converted to PCM then to analog.

A: It's converted to 2.0 PCM over RCA and 2.0/5.1 over HDMI.

Q: Also, I gather the SA-CD stereo/surround signal is converted to LPCM over the HDMI, Are there any plans to allow for a DSD signal to pass through HDMI, and plans of manufacturing AVRs capable of converting the DSD signal?

A: Since the PS3 has HDMI 1.3 it just may support this in the future. In HDMI 1.2 SACD support was added. There ought to be AVR:s out there just look for the DSD logo and make sure it can take it over HDMI.

You may know this but it will not work over optical for two reasons:

1. The bandwith is not sufficient to carry 5.1 multichannel audio.
2. Optical has no copy-protection so SACD:s won't work.

EDIT: Obviously you can output 2.0 PCM over optical.

Denon and Pioneer both have receivers that accept the DSD signal in its digital state through iLink.

I would hope that the PS3 would have the capability to pass DSD through HDMI as DSD to a receiver capable of accepting DSD natively. This is what I'm hoping to acquire sometime early next year.

To further address the FF7 question, as Chris said it's been scheduled for release in Japan in 2007 (no specific date beyond that). What's known about it is that the Blu-ray release will contain new scenes/changed scenes, and that it will have multiple language tracks.

Sony's flagship receiver also accepts the native DSD signal over iLink (AKA FirweWire or IEEE1394) I do not know of any as of yet that accept DSD signals natively over HDMI, but there may be some models out there.

Paidgeek, can you tell us about the specs of Layer Cake?

BD50? AVC? PCM?

And do you think you (read: Sony) will "clean up" the scene where Freddie gets the living s*it kicked out of him?

I look to Denon's summer line-up to give a better idea. They have HDMI 1.1 specs on all their current receivers which is why they've used iLink.
With the new HDMI 1.3 specs it would be nice if they allowed for 1 bit audio through HDMI.

Paidgeek,
Any news on PS3 firmware upgrades decoding DTS-HDMA?
Also, anyone know which BD players currently decode the full DTS-HDMA?
Thanks!

No players currently decode DTS-MA fully, but the Panasonic should have it's FW upgrade for it by the end of next month.
