Raccoons, giant bugs, goofy looking character designs...
yeah, this is a major misstep in Marvel's plans. And if it ties in closely with Avengers 2, it will drag that down as well.

I know you guys who are familiar with the comics are all gung ho about it, but the general public will not be as enthusiastic. Mark my words and come back in 2014 to see I told you so.

Stranger, and more awful, ideas have done just fine before. I think being a Marvel Studios film, people will be willing to give Guardians the benefit of the doubt. If the script is as good as rumored, it could turn out to be just fine. I don't seen any reason to be worried right now. And I especially love that Thanos will play a part in it. This will turn out just fine.

personally, until i see marvel produce a flop...i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt!! so far they are 6 for 6 in my book.

yeah disney is in the mix....big deal. marvel is still the company putting the product out.

as far as the "taking risks" comment made earlier.....marvel took a risk by making an Iron Man movie. they took what is considered a B list character and turned him into the center piece of their movie universe....a risk that i'd say paid off big time!!!

While I know nothing about GOTG, I say BRING IT ! And that goes for pretty much any Marvel character. I'm a G-E-E-K. I grew up watching a green paint covered Hulk, a Batman who did the "Batusi" and a Nick Fury who looked like Knight Rider. Now we've got a shared universe that involves alien invasions, magic, and potentially time travel...and the Kool-Aid grin on my face just keeps getting tighter and tighter.

I understand the whole oversaturation thing and turning off the mainstream, but I'm a firm believer in 2 things:
1. As long as the movie is good, the mainstream will see pretty much anything at least once
2. As long as the comic book movie is good, it doesn't matter what the mainstream thinks because it's >We The Geek-le< who will go to see them again... and again... and again...

i think if Marvel does put this out in 2014 it will be their biggest flop yet.. nobody cares about these guys unless you're a comicbook fan boy, i personally never heard of this and if i asked 20 people im sure they say the same.. Superhero movies that are sucessful are the ones where the characters are well known by all. i.e. Spiderman, xmen, iron man, etc etc.. I'm sorry but this just wont work at all

For financial reasons, any upcoming Marvel movie should be one of those connecter films, unless it's some hugely popular characters like Spiderman and Xmen. Ant Man and dr. Strange are good movies to make cuz they connect to the avengers. Black Panther is just mehhh.
Black Panther connects to the Avengers as well considering he is an Avenger, moreso than Dr. Strange.

Is that seriously a racoon?

I don't know these characters but let's face it - Marvel's A-Team is already on the pitch. DAREDEVIL and FANTASTIC FOUR need to be done right (not their properties, I know) but otherwise they're all there with the very debatable exceptions of Dr Strange, Namor and the upcoming Ant Man.

Everything else is niche-appeal. Personally, I'd like to see DEATHLOK and a proper reboot of HOWARD THE DUCK but it'd be potluck whether the public would take to them.

My only caveat is that an excellent script can turn anything around. I wasn't at all sure thet THOR would work either and that turned out well. So hopefully, it's that confidence that has them going ahead with this. Though I really can't see my enthusiasm encompassing a space-racoon teaming with THE AVENGERS.

One way to look @ it….if marvel does this right…..it could turn out the way Green Lantern should’ve turned out!!!

Yes I know….it could also turn out like Green Lantern did.

But let’s not forget….it’s all speculation @ this point. People are saying it’s going to flop w/o a single frame shot or costume design released, or even a green light given. There’s nothing to support those statements and marvel hasn’t given us any reason to doubt them to this point.

Yeah it’s a relatively unknown comic to the majority of people out there…..but so was Red. So it looks like marvel is willing to take a chance and trust in their people to do the property justice.

This does sound like a ballsy move on Marvel's part, but it's a huge risk. This sounds like Marvel's version of the Green Lantern movie - only even fewer people know who these guys are. Marvel seems to be betting that the appeal to these movies isn't the content, but the brand.

I think this could be a good thing sounds like they really want to introduce more of Thanos back story before bringing him into Avengers 2. Really interested to see how Rocket Racoon turns out for this movie. Also I wonder if they are going to tie in Drax and Moondragon in this as well

I'm excited for this film & I never even heard of these guys. Marvel has gotten it right so far as far as comic book movies goes. I would have never thought I'd like Captain America & I loved it. As far as I'm concerned, any movie they have a hand in I'll give a shot.

I've been a comics fan since the mid-60's, and a Marvel guy to boot, and I have always despised Guardians of the Galaxy. ALWAYS.

I'll see it, definitely. I won't expect much, though. These characters have had plenty of time to become "beloved and well-known"....and they simply have not done it.

Is Marvel that clueless?!? Why take your biggest success (Avengers) and tie it directly to something that almost no one knows about outside of intense comic fan circles, and even then, the response is likely to be iffy.....at best.

I'm hoping it's as good as the Avengers (or even Daredevil), but I'm prepared for disappointment, too.

The difference between the GOG and the Avengers? Being able to identify personally with the characters on some level. I can empathize with Banner, Rogers, et al....but, for the life of me, I just can't get into the "Space Raccoon".

But ultimately, much like Pixar, Marvel Studios is their own separate entity that gets to do their own thing. I see nothing wrong with that at all. If you guys aren't looking forward to further Marvel movies, ok, cool. I get it. That's your thing. I can see you guys think it might be too much. But I love what Marvel is doing, and I think it's great their going big. I don't think two movies a year is too much to ask at all. I can't wait to see what they turn out the next few years until 'Avengers 2'. To each their own. I just get tired of the "Disney is ruining everything!" thing. That's not aimed at you, Snicket. That is just something I've gotten tired of hearing over the years.

Well I don't hate Disney, I try really hard to like them despite them doing everything in their power to make me think otherwise. But its a well known fact that Disney sinks unreasonable amounts of money into incredibly risky projects, and they are not appearing to learn their lesson.

I have very similar feelings about Marvel as well. Perhaps the only difference being that I have more hope in Marvel's future. But strictly IMO, I'm not the least bit interested in Marvel's B roster of characters, because the quality is dropping off. It will take a lot to get me interested in any new properties. But I wont go as far as to say: "OMG, worst idea evar!! Di$ney is raping my childhood! Booo!!"
