We should see numbers in the low 90's very soon. In 2 or 3 more months we should start to see comparisons with DVD.

Indeed. This is a good thing. However, as I think you suggested in a later post, Blu-ray's numbers may soon be compared to DVD, which could put more revelance into the thread as HD DVD croaks.

Yeah, that's going to hurt for a while.

Amazing how this turned out really. Sony really gambled with the PS3 and in fact, the entire Playstation brand to pull out this win. Now they walk that tightrope with their blu partners because the PS3 is just such a kick-ass all around incredible piece of hardware.

Oh well. Now to start watching my blu backlog.

I was hoping the SI number would go up and make it a solid 2:1 but oh well... there's always next week.

The PS3 has turned out to be quite the multifunctional, universal, b!tch-slapping device.

That will be fun. It's important we do transition this to the real enemy: Apathy toward HDM.

I have 2 suggestions for this thread and this site in general:

1) It should morph into BD vs DVD very soon, assuming someone is publishing that data.

2) Also have a PS3 vs 360 thread constantly updated, because like it or not, this site is almost as much a PS3 site as a blu-ray site. Decoupling the 2 is a futile, esoteric exercise. Besides, this "war" is over and people need something to talk about besides new releases and tech tips.

If they do DVD vs. BD it will need to have 2 decimal points after the %, look at how many things are only released on DVD.

If they want to do DVD vs. BD I hope they find a way to only include titles (can include all versions as well) available on both, that would actually be an easier way to see how BD grows compared to DVD.

I'd say with the new Walmart announcement, although it will not take effect this next week, I'd say we'll be seeing 90:10 and higher pretty soon.

Yes, the comparison will have to be finessed in some way -- esp since a lot of DVD content (e.g. legacy TV shows) is SD material that isn't relevant to a high def format.

(pretends to be loony HDDVD nut)

What are you talking about? Our figures show that PS3 owners have a low conversion rate blah blah blah, don't buy many blu rays, blah blah, HDDVD owners buy more titles than blu ray owners blah blah blah PS3 consoles don't count toward's HW sales blah blah blah

(end)

This Week: 81:18 PWNED!
YTD 77:23 Double PWNED!
SI: 65:35 If you were any more owned you'd be a slave

I know this is tangential to your point, but most legacy TV shows were shot on film and would in fact benefit from a high-def treatment.

I hate to be a jerk, but...

The point that we'll eventually transition to BD vs. DVD has been made an unbelievable number of times. Can we just stipulate it as a given?

I'd personally like to see BD vs. DVD as a new thread, with this thread continuing for a while. Until Toshiba halts HD DVD production or the numbers have been better than 95:5 for more than a month, as far as I'm concerned we have to keep an eye on the corpse to make sure it's dead.

But I want to see a 1000 page thread...
