Haven't read the whole thread. But I didn't understand something:

[Show spoiler]why was the alien guy so pissed of at the end? was it just a case of
the aliens hating their creations, which the movie seemed to repeat a lot but not explain? And why wasn't the bit where the robot talks in alien language subtitled? I was confused, the characters, and this includes the audience, were given this huge build up about this meeting, it was the whole point of the movie, and then he didn't say a word, just went nuts.

Saw it yesterday and both my friend and I found it a very enjoyable 2 hours.

Wasn't aware that it was linked to the Alien franchise until a week ago, as the trailers I saw in the theatres didn't seem to suggest it as such. Funny enough, I bought the first 2 Alien films just 2 weeks ago as I haven't seen them and know that they are classics I should watch. And no regrets, because I was blown away by how good the first one looked! Perfect timing to see it too.

Didn't understand the whole point of the
[Show spoiler]zombie bit though. We get that alien + human host = next stage of alien. The zombie thing seemed to be just flung out of nowhere with no explanation. I thought it was Charlie after being torched, as he was just lying around the entrance, but my friend thought it was one of the 2 guys who got lost and were the first to be attacked.

The SOLE reason the colony was established on LV-426 was because the planet's volcanic activity had shut down the derelict's alien transmitter. Therefor they were established there to hopefully eventually stumble upon the alien ship, to get everybody infected, and voila...the Company swoops in, collects the samples and nobody is non the wiser. Which is pretty much exactly what happened.

As for LV-422, that does present a sort of continuity problem. So we will assume that Weyland made sure that all evidence was destroyed from his personal expedition.

OK, now I just thought of something...

How come the Prometheus did not pick up the derelict's transmission when it arrived?

There are theories floating around this very thread on what the deal is with that. More than likely the derelict ship hasn't crashed, yet.
[Show spoiler]Some have typed that perhaps Shaw's ship (the one she takes off in at the end of "Prometheus"), ends up being the crashed ship on LV-426. Would make sense why the message turns out to be a warning, as discovered by Ripley in "Alien".

It's not "LV-422" - it's LV-223 (as in, Leviticus 22:3.)

I LOVE the unexpected irony of that.

[Show spoiler]However the problem with it is that the derelict has been sitting there a very, very, very long time.

Now if they can work it out that it somehow goes back in time through a wormhole, then...

Plot hole alert

[Show spoiler]If the engineers are so advanced, and have been around for countless thousands if not hundreds of thousands or millions of years, why haven't they thought of an easier way to create life on a planet that doesn't require self sacrifice?

Why create life through evolution? Why not just create the chicken or the egg? Why turn yourself into a DNA strand and wait thousands, millions of years for some sort of evolution process which is supposedly determined by chance mutations take over?

To me this shows how ridiculous the whole idea of "God created humans through evolution" theory is. God either created the chicken or the egg, or did not create anything at all.

Plot hole debunking alert

[Show spoiler]It's not a plot hole. Please look up the definition of a plot hole.

Also, it has nothing to do with technology. The sacrifice is symbolic and important to their culture. Most people understood this right away, but more has been revealed about it by the makers of this film after the fact.

.
In the original 79 Alien screenplay, the transmission from the derelict is switched off by Dallas when they visit the bridge where they discover the space jockey.

According to Ridley, the ship on LV-426 is a 'brother' of the Juggernaut that crashes on LV-223. The events occur within a 200 year window. From screenrant :

Essentially, Scott asserts that the same developments could occur independent of the Prometheus storyline:

Scott: For all intents and purposes this is very loosely a prequel, very, and then you say “But how did that ship evolve into the first Alien?” Then I would say “Actually he’s one of the group that had gone off and his cargo had gotten out of control,” because he was heading somewhere else and it got out of control and actually he had died in the process and that would be the story there. That ship happened to be a brother to the ship that you see that comes out of the ground at the end. They are roughly of the same period give or take a couple hundred years, right?

Other than that, there’s no real link

So, although it is foolish to attempt to link Alien 79 with Prometheus, if you are compelled to do this, it is conceivable that the ship on LV-426 has not crashed yet. So, no warning beacon.

Personally, I couldn't stop at The Editing Room's treatment of that scene:
[Show spoiler]"SEAN cuts the VAGINA SNAKE in half and gets BUKKAKED with ACID BLOOD and falls into the BLACK GOO. Then the VAGINA SNAKE orally violates SEAN and kills him."

Or, since you know about the ship's existence (because you programmed your robot with a directive to use the tugboat crew as fodder), you could just land an exipidition and collect samples without spending trillions of dollars almost six decades later developing a moon no one cares about as a guise to get a bunch of boondockers to stumble upon it.

This was always one of the criticisms leveled at Cameron's script.

It's best not to think about continuity and logic in this particular universe. lol

No extended cut, just menu accessible deleted/extended scenes. Many will wish Ridley had stuck to the original Alien prequel when they read the scripts.

I think we've been wishing that since we learned that Damon L wrote this script

Yea. Whenever Van Luen tells Ripley (right after she just got BF-ed in the inquiry) about their 'Shake N' Bake' colony of hundreds of colonists...I expect her to grab him by the collar and ask him just why the hell are they on that dust ball anyway??? To farm mushrooms???
