Usually when I really enjoy a movie and someone else doesn't, I'm too quick to be like "what do you mean you didn't like it?!?"

But with Anderson, I get it - he's not for everyone.

I own and love all of Wes Anderson's films. I saw "Moonrise Kingdom" last week and loved it as well. Day one purchase for me. My only issue with this film and "The Royal Tenenbaums" was the death of the dogs. Being a huge lover of animals, I don't see the need, especially in "Moonrise Kingdom" where it added nothing to the plot. "In "The Royal Tenenbaums", the death of the dog causes Royal to replace the boys pet thus getting closer to Chas. I feel that saving the boys was enough. The beautiful beagle did not need to die. Just my two cents.

Thank you for that article. It would have benefitted from a quote or two from Mr. Anderson, but well thought out nonetheless. I have no issue watching the dramas that human beings face, but I hate to see dogs injured in any way. Hell, I used to be a season ticket holder for the Washington Redskins, but now I wouldn't watch any NFL game at gunpoint since they allow dog butcherers play. I wouldn't pay to watch Michael Vick mow my lawn.

You know this is... A film, right? All fiction...

If no one has seen it yet and it's playing in your area, check it out. For me the best film of 2012 so far.

Haha, I just realized that he's killed two dogs, thanks. My biggest head scratcher for his films is why he mirrors Owen Wilson and the giving/stealing of a single shoe in both Tenenbaums and Darjeeling..
My guess is that something happened with Owen in real life. The dog might have a real life tag too. Wouldn't be surprised if Wes or one of his friends had violently lost a dog.
Love Anderson films. Saw Moonrise Kingdom four times, in three different cities. It was neat to feel the vibe of the different audiences. Can't remember double dipping at the theater before. People clapped after it was over..

There's also a scene in The Life Aquatic where Jeff Goldblum's character hits a dog with a rolled up newspaper I believe. Maybe Wes just hates dogs and is expressing it through his films? Hahaha

What he does in the life aquatic with the dog is just awful. Its a horrible theme to have in his movies.

Are you kidding me... It was hilarious. Not saying animal abuse is good, as i'm against it. But in the context of Life Aquatic, it was hilarious. "Be still cody"

Totally agree. It's such an odd element to the story -- and you're right, not only does it add nothing to the film, it gives it a bit of unpleasantness the movie otherwise doesn't have, or need. I love the film but I noticed a lot of critics mentioned that it was a pointless component to the story as well. Kind of strange.

I agree that it didn't add anything to plot, but I actually really liked the short scene where they are looking down at the dog and say something like "Was he a good dog?", and the response "Who's to say?"

Harking back to declare that I've figured out I was probably wrong.. The shoes are a Levirate thing. Bill Murray chucks his shoe at Edward Norton too.

I hadn't worn my binoculars very much while watching Wes' films. I usually just had them dangling around my neck. But now I'm looking at the deer through them allot more.
In case you're wondering, yes, the #1 police-man caught me before I hit the graveyard. He tells me, "not to let go," quite often; though usually by walkie-talkie.
