castaway isn't a UK release so you can't directly compare them. Retailers usually put them together to their own specification in conjunction with studios i think

I think steelbooks are losing their appeal now that they're so common and frequent...And I can't afford it

It's the standard UK release I have, visually, it's stunning and it has the original stereo soundtrack. For those who want a 5.1 experience forget it, it's not there and better for it.

Visually, SUCH a good remaster!
The Reds of the jackets in this film are simply awesome!!!

Front and inside look tasty but the back with the red colour scheme means the image is almost made invisible. Overall, quite like it and don't have it on amaray so big bonus all round

As usual, Michael Caine gets his name on the cover even though he's last billed on the movie IIRC.

Maybe a stupid question but I noticed in the review that this only has a stereo track. Can I assume this is due to the source material/director's intent (just want to make sure there isn't going to be a double dip with a 5.1 track )?

Not read the review so i'll go with what came to mind. Some movies particularly that old were filmed with only a stereo track available and sometimes we have updated versions that allow the directors to update the audio score and let us know what it might have sounded like in surround sound i guess

Let's remember that this is a British film from 1964, so 5.1 wasn't around, meaning the stereo track is the original soundtrack that was used when the film was produced. It's unlikely a re-release will be around the corner, because this restored a few years ago now for future proofing by BFI and they're not going to re-release it just fro a 5.1 track.

Thank you (and NARMAK), that makes the decision a bit easier (though I have never seen the movie and never heard about it either )

Love this Film,,Happy its getting its own steelbook, but i'm satisfied with the regular UK release.

You should definitely get, it's a classic and Michael Caine's first major film role. If you're into historical and war films then this is a no-brainer.

Now, let's hope the original Italian Job gets a steelbook, because that's one I'd definitely double-dip on.
