Superb film mate. It's an homage to Giallo, split into three parts. Essential stuff when just getting into the genre.

I've got the majority of the Arrow Video releases, bar some of their most recent stuff which I still need to get. Tenebrae is my favourite giallo, but Inferno is probably my favourite 'Euro horror' film.

Anytime buddy! I think the US and UK both have very good releases and both include the short films. I'm not 100% about differences.

The UK version is under £7 however, whereas the US is about $20!

I don't own as many as some of the other people on this board. However my favourites are

Deep Red: Not the first Giallo, but probably the best, from what I've seen. A brilliant balance of murder mystery, humour and violence. That keeps the viewer on the edge of the seat, even though the denouncement is not all that surprising. Tenebrae shares the same sentiment. The use of the Lourma crane for the second murder was brilliant and the chic, clean fashionable decor lend themselves perfectly to the suspence and carnage that will take place.

Suspiria: A weak and loose story with the most brilliant operatic set pieces. The first twenty minutes is just pure madness; and the film doesn't get anymore cohearant. The music, the violence and the production design are top notch and it just goes to show to snobbish cycnics what a master craftsman Argento truly was.

A Bay of Blood: In my opinion the grandad of all the stalk and slasher films, although I do admit that Halloween is a marginally better film. Mario Bava, who pretty much also introduced the giallo genre, introduces another genre with this cheap and brilliant film that pretty much inspired Friday the 13th which itself launched the 80s slasher genre. For those of you still hung up on Jason, then I recommend this Euro horror film. You'll be just surprsied how Friday the 13th is so similar to this film.

Well I watched Amer last night..... Really need to watch it again! Loved the look and style of it, and the beginning was especially creepy! Not entirely sure what was happening in the final part of the film, hense the re-watch! What are your interpretations (with spoiler tag obviously)!

I don't agree, it's more interesting to see some of the classic gialli such as Deep Red and Bird before you see Amer. That way you can better appreciate the homage aspect.

Makes perfect sense and I agree.

On the flipside, I had never ever seen a Giallo until I stumbled upon Amer one night. After viewing it, I went on a very fun journey of discovery, watched a number of the classic titles and still found that Amer was my favourite.

Sometimes you can do things backwards and it also works out really well.

I agree. Amer is not an entry point to gialli, a lot of the fun is noticing the homages to the Bava (Blood and Black Lace, Bay of Blood) and Argento style. The film itself is not a traditional giallo, simply inspired by the classics of the genre.

Also thanks for the recommendation. Rented it from Lovefilm, can't wait to see it now. I'm so tempted to just buy it and watch it tonight instead of waiting.
