Butch will have 5.1 DTS HD MA & there's no reason to think the other classics won't.

It was listed over at HollywoodHi-def as Dolby Digital 5.1 only, so I got conerned. Are you an insider or did you read this somewhere? It's very important to me as some of my favorite classics are from Fox and I don't want them to take the road Warner took earlier with their classics (no lossless). But thanks for the info, I am much calmer now, hehe.

Ok, I dont want to crowd Bill thread with this, but are you saying that they already had a bluray version of these films in their warehouse?
If they don't, they have a master disc ready to be pressed

Bill, I've been a visitor to your site for many years, including the early DVD days when we were striving for things like anamorphic widescreen on DVD. Can you paint a picture of how studios are planning to re-invigorate the spinning disc market and create significant Blu-ray vs DVD sales?
There's nothing like a clear message and 100% Hollywood studio support to spur sales. I'm guessing you're going to see a HUGE retail and industry push for Blu-ray this holiday season. There will be lots of new titles announced, player prices will continue to drop, you'll see LOTS more HDTV/Blu-ray player bundled sales. More importantly, I think you're going to see a lot of people who were sitting on the sidelines get off the sidelines this holiday season.

Today, that finally happened and I want to thank you for over a decade of great reading and enjoyment. For a break in the usual questions people naturally have at this point, I want to ask you to muse for a moment on the differences you see in the end of this war as compared to the much shorter DVD vs. DIVX battle.

While I was elated by the news today, I was not at all surprised, the writing on the wall has been glaringly obvious for some time now. The end of DIVX however, totally bowled me over on the day it came. Your thoughts?

Chris
You are very welcome, and thank you for reading all these years. We're very proud of the fact that we have such great readers, and we feel fortunate to have been able to correctly advise them in not just one but TWO format wars now.

I guess what's struck me is that the outcome of THIS battle, while longer and more contentious, was more far clear to me from the start. One manufacturer just does not make a format, and Toshiba slashing their prices so deeply and so quickly was never going to encourage other manufacturers to join them. Frankly, it's really the only viable strategy they had to play, but what it meant was that Blu-ray really had the advantage almost from the very start. The shame of it is that we all had to go through almost two years of bulls--t between then and now. I also think there was a lot more dirty play this time around. Both camps, but especially the HD-DVD camp, really used enthusiasts and the various newsgroups online to spread FUD and spin. That was what finally got us off the sidelines last year, and it's really a shame. There's a lot of healing that's going to have to happen now, and it's going to take a long time.

I am also shocked that Para/Uni would wait almost 6 weeks to annouce. I can hope we will hear announcements within a few days. With actual releases in 6 weeks.

Bill, what would be the reason Para/Uni would wait another 6 weeks? Unless these anouncements through them completely by surprise and the 6 week stance was a few days ago thought?

Thanks Bill. That was actually a question for Wicky!

btw, here is something that is very interesting:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=37276

Apparently a worker at Circuit City has noticed that a bluray version of Transformers is in their system. He even took a pic.

Comments?

Yes, I am 100% aware that we have all seen something like this before.

Just what I said before. You're going to see things happening very quickly now I think. I'd be surprised if it was six weeks, let's put it that way.

A site redesign might be nice (although at this point it's so old that it's retro ), but in the meantime you can easily search it with Google.

Just put "site:thedigitalbits.com" into the search area along with any search terms you want to use.

Wow, just wow.

I expected it to move quickly, just not that quickly. Can you name any titles(if you can't I understand)? We all know that "blades of glory" was pressed and ready to go out the door.

Bill, again, thanks for your participation.

Could Paramount move that quickly for new titles rather than ones they may have completed but then pulled at the last minute?

I was under the impression that the company doing their BD authoring had nothing to do with their HD-DVD's, and that they are unlikely to pick up the reigns again, certainly not on the same terms... So are Paramount effectively starting off from zero again unless someone's feeling very generous towards them?

Bill,

Just wondering if there is going to be anything more from New Line. I was looking forward to seeing "Rendition" released on Blu-ray, but so far the only place that I have even seen any release info is in the UK. Thank you for anything you can share.

i'm guessing Top Gun and Face/Off are included in the lot too and hoping very much for Transformers as well. i'm sure that's the title everyone is waiting for.

Bill,

Will the upcoming special, deluxe, etc. movies that are being re-released on blu-ray include improvements to the movies or just extra extra features?

"Max" stated that Transformers was authored but never pressed so I would assume a few months to get it pressed/packaged. Unless Bay's wants to add some extra's
