I have both the UK DVD as well as the Italian blu ray and the Italian blu ray has more picture information on the sides. The UK DVD has slight black bars on the sides.

The credits part of the Italian blu ray also has these black bars on the sides. Seems like the main movie is just a zoomed in credits part right to a point where the black bars on the sides disappear.

But it has a weird aspect ratio, unlike any other blu ray I have. I've discovered that the black bars on the top and bottom are actually built into the picture. I don't think it's that big of a deal, like the difference between 1.78:1 and 1.85:1 - you wouldn't even notice the difference if you didn't know it in advance. The picture quality on the Italian blu is still pristine and one of my favorite picture qualities of any blu ray I own.

The UK got a region free release of The Fog and I ended up getting it and can confirm it's fn fantastic. Grab the UK release.

The Italian bluray is definitely cropped at the sides during the main movie, 2.23:1 (dvdbeaver measurement) instead of 2.35:1. It is not as much as the UK dvd with the black bars at the side but it is still not correct and John Carpenter movies use and need the whole frame and I think it is very noticeable. Both the US Universal dvd and HDnet showing(dnr'ed) are the correct ratio.

I have the Italian bluray, US and UK dvd as well as the HDnet cap for comparison.

Also while the Italian bluray has good picture quality I wouldn't say it is excellent, there is plenty of room for improvement.

Can anyone tell me, do these Scream Factory (a.k.a. Shout Factory) blu-rays have to be bought from their website or will they be at retail Brick and mortar stores?

I will have They Live on Blu one way or another.

There was another thread created after yours, and someone merged it with yours. Unfortunately, the poll came with it.

This is so freaking AWESOME!!!!! Hoping they break their rule, and license the UK Commentary for this,I think I might rather have that than a bunch of new features, that commentary was freaking hilarious, but my Region Free DVD Player died, and I can't afford to buy a new Region Free DVD Player for my grand total of 5 R2 DVDs,even if they are They Live and the Phantasm Box Set,and I can't afford to give in and buy a Region Free Blu-Ray player, because I buy too much as it is,if I buy that I'll be robbing banks or out on the streets from overspending. I have to draw the line somewhere, lol.

The Optimum Entertainment disc of The Fog looks awful. The contrast is so incredibly blown out it's not even funny. I bought it, watch about 20 minutes of it, and sold it right away it looked so bad. Everyone should really avoid that one and just wait for a good release.

I hope that they have some deleted scenes as the extras. There is at least one deleted scene that isn't in the movie, at the 0:54 mark in this featurette:

That means that there might be more. And I LOVE the trailer for the movie and how the music gradually builds up, one of my favorite trailers ever. It's on the Optimum DVD, but seeing it in HD would be even more sweet. They gotta add the audio commentary!

A lot of Shout Factory stuff has been sold at Best Buy stores. That's where I get the newest MST3K episodes. Depends on the managemnet probably if your local retail joints will carry them. Hopefully my local Best Buy will get these when they arrive, I want to get Scream Factory's blu-rays on Day 1

I have seen other Shout Factory releases at some of my local Brick stores, so I would assume that these would be the same.

I'm definitely excited that this is coming out on blu-ray.
