There will always be tech advancements in terms of digital storage media, be it optical or hologram. It's use as a digital video media must be preceeded with an upgrade in video fidelity (from 1080p24 with 4:2:2 color depth to 1080p24 4:4:4, for example) in display technology and widespread support from CEs to content provider.

Due to the strength of DVDs and the emergence of BD, we probably won't see another format in at least another 15 years. Hopefully by that time, CDs will be replaced by SACDs or BD-Audio.
