I sure hope we get Hercules next year. That desperately needs a proper release, and is one of the remaining 90s Disney animations yet to get a bluray release, along with Hunchback.

Sadly I think we're not getting Hercules next year. Hunchback only perhaps, but there's a small chance.

As for the other post-1990 movies; Mermaid and Aladdin are set, Mulan went OOP and is probably coming too, Tarzan might pop up in the US with a new transfer (hopefully), and there's still 2 post-Renaissance pre-CGI movies left..

To clear it up, I meant the era between Chicken Little and Tarzan (post-renaissance, pre-CGI).

Dinosaur (out on BD)
Emperor's New Groove (perhaps next year)
Lilo and Stitch (perhaps next year)
Treasure Planet (out on BD '12)
Home on the Range (out on BD '12)
Atlantis (out on BD '12)
Brother Bear (out on BD '12)

So that just leaves ENG and L&S, "coincidentally" the most popular titles from that era. Will they be coming in special editions next year? I bet you they will!

As for others I'm expecting for 2013: The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (HD clips on YouTube) and Robin Hood (went OOP).

I just wish that "special edition" meant something. Anything. Heck, Treasure Planet's blu-ray release was supposedly a "10th Anniversary Edition" but I seem to recall it had NOTHING the original 1-disc DVD didn't have, not even a new cover. What gives, how can they market that as a special edition?

Well, my only consolation in waiting for some of the good titles is the hope that they'll do a quality presentation of the films with awesome features. Yes, they're giving us films like 'Home on the Range' and 'Treasure Planet' now, but they are just slapping them together with decent quality and that's it. Hopeully for Hunchback, etc. we'll get a much better package of material.

Yeah, that's too bad.
But since they're cramming four of their post-Renaissance failures into one release year (A:TLE, BB, HotR, TP) I betcha they're saving L&S and ENG for next year, with bigger promotions, coupons, advertisements, more special features, clips on YouTube, superb transfers..

Heck, they might even decide to upgrade L&S to Diamond status.. you never know. (Just a fan theory)

With Disney "anniversary edition" doesn't mean special edition. They're just marking the fact the disc is coming out on such and such a year.

The Rocketeer is a "20th Anniversary Edition" and it only has a new transfer and a trailer. That's it. At least with Treasure Planet we get the DVD extras, unlike those other discs where the extras have been banished to the online/BD-Live vault.

What makes you think we won't get Hercules? The new HD transfer has been shown on ABC Family for a while now.

I actually think Hercules is more likely to get a Blu release next year than Hunchback. They were both shown a few weeks ago on Channel 5 HD, and Hunchback did not look it had been remastered. Hercules has and the HDTV version looked great.

It's the only title along with the package movies and Hunchback that never got a new DVD release after the Gold Collection and thus it only exists as a non-anamorphic horribly transferred DVD.
Disney seems to think this film is unpopular and was unsuccesful, while in reality it had massive home video sales to compensate it's meagre (for Disney standards) box office run.
They just plain don't like this title. If they put this out next year I'm going to be really surprised. The only reason I can think of is if they wanted to get it out of the way as their last Renaissance one or something after they release HonD, Mulan and Tarzan.

Let's not despair though - everybody knows Disney absolutely loathes Rescuers Down Under but it got a BD release nevertheless.

I doubt 'Dalmations' would get the double feature treatment. Based on the platinum line, id assume 101 will get a Diamond release

101 Dalmatians was in the Diamond line up but has now been dropped. Some countries, including the UK, are getting both Dalmatians and its sequel this year.

Really, that one?
Then again, stranger things have happened. A lot of us were surprised with Disney putting out four of their misfires this year (atlantis, bb etc.)

Well, look where we are with Treasure Planet and Home on the Range...Hercules was a blockbuster compared to those.

And you're forgetting Hercules at least had a TV series (and I've seen James Woods' Hades in Disney Halloween advertisements). Someone at Disney liked it.

True, true and true, but within the Renaissance Hercules still seemed rather.. meagre. Let's just use that word twice.

Hunchback and Hercules don't need a to be remastered/restored, they are both digital.

Yeah, so I wonder why OP thought there was a difference? Maybe one was an HD broadcast and the other wasn't?

This is just a theory of mine, but I think that a lot of the "resentment" towards Hercules is that it was suppose to be their big "Win back the crowds movie." Both Pocahontas and Hunchback made money, but they were also both heavily criticized in comparison to the earlier "Big 4." Hercules has a massive marketting campaign ("The Directors of Little Mermaid and Aladdin!") and then it ended up making even less than the previous films. It made a return, but in a lot of ways it was the Princess & the Frog of the 90's.

The HD print of Hunchback I've seen is caked with dirt and debris.
