That was exactly my thinking as well - if they had omitted any of the big eight, then that would likely lead to a second set. As it stands, I'm positive this will be it. That said, no one one would be happier than me to get the sequels in HD, most especially Dracula's Daughter.

Holy cow. How much did you spend on that? Looks like they sell for a few grand now! I've got a life-long goal of creating a monster museum in my house and I figured I'd start with full size busts for the heads and build the bodies and then recreate each corner of the basement as a particular scene from their respective films. I'm talking like spending decades on this. I plan for it to be finished by retirement (I'm 26 now)

They could possibly do exactly what they did before with DVD. We all get the Essential Collection Blus, then down the line they release something like the Legacy Sets for those that want the sequels, more money for them from our double-dip ....

Those are my thoughts as well if they actually do get to the sequels, though they did release most of the major ones on the double sets beforehand. They've shown over the years they're not shy of getting people to double dip and are already forcing some people to rebuy Psycho and North By Northwest if they want the US Hitchcock box.

The strangest thing is that the UK has always fallen behind with these yet with people importing because of the price, Universal may get quite a skewed perspective of their popularity.

The Invisible Man Returns

Of course these will probably be smaller sets and a lot cheaper, with no 50 pages books or anything like that. They will probably only be a couple discs each with more then one movie on one disc, but hopefully no flippers.

I would be okay with that.

completely off....no way would they go through all the trouble to remaster those and put them together like that.....what the draw to them?? NOTHING, they wouldn't sell the numbers they need to make profit. they're not dumb...they are blowing their full wad on the first release....you MIGHT see these at a later date...but not all them in a package of that size or under the 'Universal....' moniker

I do agree with those who say that the nine films in this box truely are essential films to own for horror fans, monster fans, film students, film historians, and even the casual mock watcher. This collection belongs on every movie shelf, in every film library in the entire world. You can not say the same for the sequels sans Bride of Frankenstein.

Why exactly does telling other people what they should care about deserve a round of applause?

Um, the point, is that there is a choice between the US and UK. I chose the US. Im not missing out on the films, nor would I ever pass up a film I want entirely because of a cover. For me, US is a looker, the UK cover is ugly. That's it.

Why does my telling someone that their post was applause worthy need validating? He/She made a good point that resonated with me.

Plus, that Playboy thing sealed it.

May go thru this whole thread at some point. But...

I'm glad that just these are being made available, no more no less, in this box. They're the ones I grew up with, the ones I have much of any interest in. (Have maybe half of them on dvd, never quite got around to watching them.)

I have pre-ordered the UK set. My reason, which I hope is borne out in actuality once I have it in my grubby hands, aside from the hefty price discount of course, is that I'm thinking its packaging will involve hubs of some sort for the discs rather than the slots that seem to be portrayed in the U.S. version's packaging. (Hate not having hubs.)

Hope they don't mess them up too much (PQ especially).

Just three more months and all will be revealed.

I agree with this completely....I am looking forward to replacing my DVD set, but have no real interest in any of the sequels that others have put in proposed Essential Collections 2 & 3.

Am a tad bit upset about the US packagnig in the cardboard. The standard dvd set of Laurel and Hardy came that way and I had to get a replacement set from Amazon and then pick and choose which ones weren't scatched . Then I put them in a 10 dvd case. Good this is these are blus and are less likely to scratched, but stil may get a couple of blu cases for them anyways.
