I'm aware it may not be cool to post your B&N haul, but here's what I just ordered online:

Being John Malkovich
Traffic
The Last Temptation of Christ
Solaris
Summer Interlude
Wings of Desire
12 Angry Men
Rushmore
Down By Law
The Moment of Truth

Perhaps a little overboard.

I hate not being able to spend as much as I'd like. Trying to narrow my purchase down to what I can afford at the moment which is 2. Currently have 4 in my cart:

The Last Temptation of Christ
12 Angry Men
Being John Malkovich
The Rolling Stones: Gimme Shelter

I can't seem to decide on which 2 to go with. Any suggestions?

I picked up Amarcord, 8 1/2, the seventh seal, and Breathless in the B&N sale but am still looking to get more. Are there any titles you guys recommend. I love Kurosawa, Fellini, and Godard. Any suggestions?

If you love Kurosawa, then I'd definitely recommend High and Low (his best film, imo).

Seven Samurai. My favorite criterion. The Yojimbo/Sanjuro set is also great.

Thanks for the recommendation. I ended up going with one of your picks and ordered 12 Angry Men. Also went with Last Temptation of Christ.

Of course some of that might be leftover frustration from all the "Interac Only" ATMs at the Ottawa Bluesfest this weekend. Frustrating.

Regarding actual Criterion stuff, I look forward to hearing your opinion of Samurai Trilogy when you finally get/view it. I watched it all in one day and loved it.
Man, I rarely use my debit card anymore. Maybe once every 4 months or more to deposit a cheque, or take out the odd 20. I use my visa as if it were a debit card, because it's 1% cash back on everything I buy. I never realised how proprietary Interac was.

Too bad I have to wait a month for The Samurai trilogy. I'm going to get Late Spring first, as B&N already shipped it (two days earlier than they proposed). It's one I've watched before though, where as the Samurai Trilogy was a total blind buy.

I started with both versions of Floating Weeds via TCM, which caused me to become interested in Late Spring. Are you adverse to DVD? Because I'd start with Floating Weeds. I'm waiting for an upgrade to BD for the set myself.

Such a shame that I missed the 3 for 2 and 50% off overlap, but will be getting:

1.
Summer with Monika
The Magician
(gotta love Bergman!)

2.
The Samurai Trilogy
(Mifune, Mifune, Mifune!)

And a third order where I need some advise
Moment of Truth & The Organizer
OR
Les Cousins & Beau Serge

Which one would you choose?

I'll admit that I haven't yet watched The Organizer, Les Cousins & Le Beau Serge, but I can tell you that The Moment Of Truth was spectacular. Absolutely the best surprise I've had on Blu this year.

Late Spring is available on Blu-ray from Criterion

Also there are two Eclipse sets that well worth it right now since they are half price, Silent Ozu and Late Ozu from Criterion

If you have a regio free player BFI and MoC in Europe also have some of his 50's movies in Blu-ray

I hope you enjoy your discovery of his movies, wonderful director in my opinion

Not only did I really enjoy Late Spring, but Toyko-Ga is one of my favorite special features. My wife and i have watched it twice this summer while we were planning our fall trip of Japan.

Pat - If you had to choose one of the Ozu eclipse sets, would you recommend silent or late Ozu?

Late Ozu, it as some of his more special iconic movies in my opinion. Silent Ozu is fun, good movies but probably more of interest to someone who as already discovered Ozu and now want's to see more of his work

I was looking for a library copy, or at least an eBook edition. I found a copy on Amazon, I just have to wait a bit to order it.

You'll enjoy the Gorin set...another Spidey winner! You know my stance on Ozu.

Down By Law is a must for me...big Jarmusch fan. I'm getting the Gremillion set near the end of the sale. Will get Czech New Wave if I have any money left and Spidey can talk me into it.

Seriously excited by Berlin Alexanderplatz...can't wait to dig in to it.

Now I have two books to read. After watching The Samurai Trilogy's special features I really want to read Musashi's own book The Book of Five Rings. Man this is going to cut into my movie time.

I don't mind hearing about films either, but we get 2% of that and 90% are lists of titles. Doesn't really bother me though as I usually just skip them so knock yourselves out!

I don't consider it his best film at all, but I have found Yojimbo to be one of the best films to show to people who have never seen a foreign film. It always seems to get them interested in seeing more.
