I saw this yesterday... boy, is it a tight competition between the two formats in their eyes

, with blu-ray barely getting the edge.

And I like how they make future proofing a tie between the two... boy, that's smart - these guys sure know what they are talking about

Overall, they are basically saying "blu-ray is better ... but only just"

Yup... the article is rife with inaccuracies/lies and FUD. But they still in the end say "blu-ray is the winner". Hmm... is this just their way of letting down the HD-DUD side gently?

At least it shows that Blu-ray is winning and it wins IGN AU in its choice. Yet you think that they're review is still lacking and you accuse them for that?

I'm sorry, did you bother to read the whole article on their site? I'm guessing not.

I think it's fair to bring up these points that the writers still show a bias in a blu-ray forum for discussion.

As to your post and subsequent attack ... well I think that's pathetic and uncalled for. I also think at times "we should all give it a rest" and chill out and not have attacks on each other. It's just a format conversation after all... and we don't have to beat up on each other like on the AVS forum. If we can't sound off here and try to bring valid points for discussion, then where? But hey, that's just me.

And I guess I am impossible to please... which is probably why I like blu-ray.

They seem to infer in this article that the competition between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is close in Australia. From my understand there is now very limited competition between the two formats there. Blu-ray sales are much more dominant in Aus than here in the States, and one of Australia's largets CE retailers (perhaps the largest im not sure?) has decided to sell only the Blu-ray product. I could be wrong but this is based on all the information I have read related to the subject.

Is this correct or is that information inaccurate?

I have had a close relationship to the AV industry for many years at various level of involvement and HD-DVD is the best kept secret. I have not yet seen any evidence of HD-DVD in Melbourne (2nd largest city in OZ) and not for the lack of trying. Without too much effort I have seen the Samsung in 14 different stores Panasonic in 6 and the Sony in 3. Although limited number of titles available for Blu-ray, the number of locations selling them is not a problem. At the moment in OZ it's like singles tennis match with only one player turning up. Not much happening with Blu-ray, but it's out there, while (shhh it's a secret) HD-DVD hasn't shown up, but of the PC Mags etc, like the much of the internet are claiming HD-DVD to be far better for any reason they can think up providing there are no facts associated with their opinions. At the moment in Aus I would rate Blu-ray 1.5 stars and HD-DVD 0 stars. I expect with a number of titles coming out in the next few weeks and the PS3 coming out this will radically change and Blu-ray will start to rock. Last time I checked the prices the XBOX 360 with HD-DVD is about $250 more than the PS3 ($1,000) and the PS3 has more features however you can pay approx $700 for the XBOX 360 then come back latter and get the HD-DVD add on (available end of March - 1 week after the PS3) for another $500 - I'm sure there is some good spin there somewhere.

Didn't one of Australia's largest Electronics Retailer announce that they would not be stocking any HD-DVD players or movies at all?

I think one store that is only in Sydney said they would stock HD-DVD but that is not much use to the rest of country (I took no notice) I'm not going to drive 9hrs (each way) to see one, it's like saying a few stores in Chicago will stock HD-DVD. There are quite a few big chain stores that have announced they will be exclusive Blu-ray, with a number of others just doing it. I made a prediction here sometime ago, that many of the big stores do not stock anything Toshiba. Do you think Sony, Samsung or Panasonic would be happy with their demo model TV's being used to promote HD-DVD (think not).
