Heh, well at least he wasn't driving some ridiculously priced sports car. Then again with the money he's going to lose out on with a suspension he could have afforded a few luxury cars.

I love this comment on the story link.

A Ford Econoline? Does Marshawn run “Beast Mode Elderly Transport” in his spare time?

1.55 billion and we haven't been a good team since the 80s/early 90s god we rule Had we been the patriots and had their kind of seasons since late 90s I bet we'd beat ManU easy.

Redskins signed RGIII to a 4-year deal. He is the first of the top 8 picks to sign.

21 million is quite reasonable to me for the second qb picked.

The money is set by the CBA so regardless of position that is what the #2 pick was getting. What has been holding up the deals for the top 8 players is offset language. The contracts are fully guaranteed 4-year deals, but the teams want a clause that if a player is cut before the contract is up then any money the player would make from his next team (during the same 4 year period) would reduce the amount the team owes. The players don't want offset language and if they are a flop want to be able to keep all the money from their current team plus any money they would get from their next team. #9 pick Luke Kuechly's contract didn't have offset language so all of the top 8 players are arguing that their contracts shouldn't have offset language. RGIII's deal doesn't have offset language so Luck's contract should be done quickly because there's no way he's going to have offset language when the #2 pick doesn't.

It's so dumb that these teams are fighting over offset language for the top 8 picks. No matter how bad a top 8 pick is they are going to be kept for 3 years. If they are then released they get a contract worth at most $1 million and probably not even that, so the teams are fighting over something that minimal.

Check this out. Here's Ryan Leaf's deal compared to RG3. Both were #2 overall picks.

1998 - Ryan Leaf - 4 years, $31.25 mill

2012 - Robert Griffin - 4 years, $21 mill

The rookie salary structure is really helping the game.

Lol even adjusted for inflation if he'd simply gotten 31, he'd still be out about 11 million nfl owners win again!

Yeah, as of last week (not sure if it's changed since then) T.J. Graham of the Bills was the only one of the top 12 picks in the third round to have signed. The reason has to do with last year's draft and is explained below:

Quote:
A market correction is the issue. Last year, the first under the new CBA, set a precedent for deals in subsequent seasons. Those contracts are viewed as the standard. But a few of them were out of whack with others in the vicinity.

Some agents, in a rush to get deals done, undervalued their players.

Carolina Panthers defensive lineman Terrell McClain (first pick of the third round) and Denver Broncos linebacker Nate Irving (third pick of the third round) signed deals that will cost them six figures over the lengths of their deals compared to their draft peers.

Their base salaries for this year will be $465,000. Seven players drafted after them in the third round will make more than they do. New England Patriots running back Stevan Ridley, Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett, Seattle Seahawks guard John Moffitt and Jacksonville Jaguars guard William Rackley (the ninth, 10th, 11th, 12th picks from the third round) each will make at least $505,000 in base salary this season.

Rackley will make $507,467. But Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey (14th selection of the third round) drops back down to a $490,000 base salary.

Buffalo linebacker Kelvin Sheppard (fourth pick of the third round) will make $480,000 in base salary this year.

The money wasn't aligned, and agents have been dancing with front offices.

Teams, of course, want to use favorable contracts as their model, while agents want to get those first 12 picks of the third round back in line with those around them.

Agents have resisted, trying to get their clients closer to Mallett and Ridley money than Irving and Sheppard money.

The more I read about the Dez Bryant story the more I think he may not be entirely at fault. It sounds like Dez bought her the house and discovered his mother with drugs, possibly setting off the bad situation. The mother sounded really spaced out in the 911 call too. Of course there's no excuse for striking your own mom, but it might not be as bad as the original story sounded.

In the 911 call she said her son's license plate is "BAIL ME. " wtf?

INSANE team if they stay healthy but you've got 7 guys who have missed extensive time multiple times.

If that's the case I don't think it's as bad either he's a public figure and as the home owner could still be liable in certain states.

You're kind of weak at running back. There's a good chance Mendenhall will start the season on the PUP list, which would force him to miss at minimum the first 6 games of the season, after tearing his ACL in the regular season finale. Players coming off ACL tears usually aren't very effective the season after the injury as well.

In addition BenJarvus Green-Ellis (who I think the Patriots should have re-signed) will likely share carries with Bernard Scott and rookie Dan Herron. On the plus side you won't have to worry about losing points with him because he never fumbles the ball.

I agree, but Rodgers will make up my second RB's losses lol I got 2nd pick in the first round and couldn't believe the first guy didn't pick him. I always cried every time I had to play against someone with Rodgers last season.

Yet another high-profile athlete arrested for DUI, last week it was basketball player Jason Kidd and now Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch.

I wish the commissioners of the respective sports leagues would step in and put a stop to this. Suspend Lynch for four games. Send the message that all of these f*cking millionaires/public figures need to hire a cab driver or a chauffeur if they want to keep their paychecks.

Oh don't worry, Lynch will get 4 games minimum, probably more. He's had prior issues. When he was in Buffalo he was involved in a hit and run incident.

On Pro Football Talk they said Lynch isn't guaranteed to get suspended because drunk driving falls under the substance abuse policy and not the personal conduct policy. However, per the link:

Quote:
That said, a suspension may be imposed if the league finds “aggravating circumstances,” which could in the opinion of the judge/jury/executioner include a past history of non-DUI infractions. ”Aggravating circumstances” also could arise from the contention that Lynch nearly struck a pair of cars.

Regardless, a suspension isn’t as automatic as everyone seems to believe it is. While a suspension could indeed occur, it’s not guaranteed.

Yet another drunk driving arrest to report. This time it's Rams defensive end Robert Quinn, who was arrested for DWI and two other traffic charges on July 10. Quinn was the #14 pick in the 2011 draft.
