Default What's the best brand of flash drive to buy?

I currently have a Duracell 2gb flash drive but the part that sticks into the USB is loose so it no longer works anymore.

Looking to buy another one. What's the best brand for one? Something not too expensive and won't break easily.

I have used (I buy stuff for users in our company aswell) Kingston and Sandisk. No complaints.

I like the Kingston ones with the "swivel" cases that protect the USB connector; I think they are well-made and durable flash drives.

Ones like these (not sure what the difference is between these two models)

Keep in mind that my experiences are anecdotal and may not be representative of the product(s) in general.

My lone experience with SanDisk was an unfavourable one. Bought a Cruzer a few years back. Had no interest in their pre-installed software, so I formatted it. Result: neither my home or work PCs could detect it, so I downloaded the software from their website, re-installed it, then returned the drive for a refund.

My track record with Kingston was pretty good for a while. All of my Taiwanese-made DataTraveler I drives work without a hitch, but the one manufactured in mainland China died after a handful of uses; after this unfortunate experience, I switched to hp v125w (pictured below; manufactured in S. Korea) and really happy with the switch.

I've used Kingston's DataTraveler for always and have had a great experience with them.

Aside from Kingston and Sandisk (avoid some of their models, perusing Amazon's reviews will tell you which), I have 2 PNY drives that are fantastic and reliable.

I have formatted many times sandisk`s and had no problems ? changed file systems etc. still no problems. so maybe this was one faulty disc ? like I wrote I supply these to users, so I have bought and used dozens and dozens of these and yes these do break and lose data, but sandisk and kingston have proven over the years for me to be the best. that does not mean they are the best

edit : i have about dozen myself at the moment here at home. different sizes and types. just dont tell my boss

I've not had any issues with either the SanDisk or Kingston sticks! Never tried the PNY ones, nor the HP.

I have sandisk and have never had any issues as well. Been formatted and changed file systems as well. Have a 1GB and 2GB. In fact, I have never had any issues with any sandisk or kingston brands ever. Going back at least 7 years.

Which brands let you use the flash drives right away with installing software?

Okay. Time for another flash drive. Since I keep losing mine. I bought one of those links you suggested and it wouldn't connect to an older laptop with Windows Vista. I would like to transfer files from my laptop to a friend's older one so something that doesn't need to install anything would be great.

One of my PNY flash drives just stopped working. Lost all my data. I do not recommend.

I recommend Sandisk. I have many of those flash drives and never had any issues with one failing.

I have a 64GB USB3 Sandisk that for whatever reason doesn't work in USB 3 mode on my desktop (NEC chip USB3 card). Works properly in my laptop though.

after being in the industry and using them for at least 14 years (maybe longer can't remember ... curse of old age ). I'd recommend most of the main brands. you're gonna get a lemon sooner or later from just about any of the major players, just a matter of luck

Sandisk
PNY
Kingston
Adata

all had really good luck with. had multiple of each and never a failure, just upgraded or lost over time.

had a tone of some of the more "no-name" brands and those were usually fine, just lower read/write speeds (although surprisingly corsair was the worst for read/write speeds)

I use Sandisk and have been able to find good deals through Costco. I tried Rocketfish in the past and would not recommend them. For whatever reason they kept losing my information. So I made the switch the next time Sandisk went on sale.
