United Kingdom America to UK?

Hi...If you order something from Amazon in America can anyone tell me how long it usually takes to get to the UK? I ordered WRATH OF THE TITANS and I've got a horrible suspicion that those f*****s at Customs have got it!
Thanks

I think it's because of the Olympics. Normally my orders take about ten days to two weeks to arrive. I was sent an order four weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived. Another recent order took five weeks. Customs are being very careful and thorough at the moment.

This is true, but 11 year old boys are free to make their own way to Italy from Manchester without a passport.

Typical isn't it? they can quite happily screw you over with customs but allow kids to go on airplanes without tickets, passports and indeed...parents.

Yes, passport control isn't doing as good a job as customs, unfortunately!

I have. I paid for express delivery though. Delivered by DHL and got picked up by customs as well.

I ordered a Steelbook for a member here and it arrived very quickly in perfect condition. I used expedited shipping and didn't occur any charges as it was under anyway. Shipping was expensive though but I'd have to look up the exact amount.

It got damaged on it's way to Ireland though....

When you guys says "picked up by customs" what do you mean? Are you telling me they completely claimed your package and you're shit out of luck, never gonna see it again? Or you mean they're just taking their sweet time letting it through?

The reason I ask is because I want to ship my collection from LA to the UK and want to know whats the best way to do it and avoid any hassles with customs. What's the price threshold of the items that raises a flag with customs? or is it something else? This threads got me paranoid!

I need some expertise.

They look at the package and if it's worth over £15 for the item inside, they then charge you import duty and the Post Office hit you with an £8 (?) handling fee which you have to fork over when you collect it from them (with the duty).

Some items get hit, some pass through unmolested. It's pot-luck on whether your package is checked if it's over £15.

So if my collection is worth a couple of hundred or a couple of thousand, it's still £8? Seems incredibly reasonable and yet completely unbelievable knowing the extent to which they tap that ass for every little thing you do. Isn't there a VAT tax too on the shipment that you have to pay?

The import duties will be a percent of the items worth (whatever the VAT is) including the postage cost, so it would be a lot on a couple of thousand pounds of goods! The handling fee is standard if I remember correctly. Over £135 gets hit with two charges if I'm reading the below correctly.

I've got the link somewhere I'll find it and post it.

That's actually excellent information chip, thank you.

My brain feels like a sponge after reading the customs website and that's the first to-the-point bit of information I've seen.

No problem. Good luck with you're stuff.

Remember that Amazon.com offer expedited shipping which speeds up the process as they'll pay the charges for you if your goods are stopped (you'll get refunded if they're not stopped) and a few sites ship from within the UK to avoid charges but you'll pay a small premium for the service (the cost is included in the price of the BD and the Postage & Packaging).

A lot of members have a lot more import experience than me and I'm sure they'll be happy to help with regards to the sites that ship from within the UK.

I would take a look at this, and verify the information with the carrier you use:-
