Since the director isn't even asian and it was going to cinema I don't understand why they used the worst cheapest cameras they could find BUT they had the money to make a new soundtrack with Linkin Park.....

Those cheap 1080p handheld cameras would look better than this. Don't really like the muted colors either but gonna stop complaining until my movie arrives

Not buying those screenshots. First of all the movie looked pretty damn good in theaters because I remember telling myself wow this will make a fine bluray. The muted colors are there but that's part of the look nothing wrong with that. It kind of fits the film's tone.

I'd wait for the reviews or the actual bluray to come out before any judgements are made.

Sony doesn't mess up Blu-ray video quality. What happened here? and does anyone think that The Raid may have better video quality on the imports (such as the upcoming UK version)?

I doubt they messed up. The BD is probably a perfect representation of what was intended. It might not look pretty, but it's not supposed to.

On other boards, I've seen a few diehard RAID fans crying foul at the Dredd similarities, but let's be real-- Dredd has been in development since 2008 and the concept of an elite squad being dropped off into enemy territory is hardly a revolutionary concept LOL.

I actually got into a debate about the Dredd/RAID similarities with a buddy and ended up just trolling him, and said RAID ripped off Where Eagles Dare.

And since a remake is already in the works, it's not like we won't be seeing more of these types of plots in the near future.

So long as they are fun action flicks, I say the more the merrier.

(edit)

Also, I take it there won't be a US slip for this one?

So the review is up and it's shocking that it got bad reviews, but until I see the film on screen I can't say anything because the film looked pretty good in theaters.

Yeah, just like the 28 Days Later and Oldboy U.S. BDs.

Average video or not, if you are an action fan... It doesn't get much better than this. Trust me.

I got the BD today, and yeah, it is mushy and washed out. It does seem overly compressed with this one being the worst example (notice the blockiness in facial details):

The blu-ray.com screenshots also show similar compression artifacts, especially in shadow details. I think the reviewer should have mentioned it.

Pretty much this.

Sony can't work, with what isn't there.

I was thinking the same thing. I saw it in the theatre and remember saying "I can't wait for the Blu-ray!".

Looks like a great action flick, and I can't wait to watch it.

I guess I'll never quite understand reviews on this site...not that I'm complaining, as the reviews are very informative.
For this movie's review, specifically for the extras, it get's a 3.5/5? It's a very low budget movie, but as over 100 mins of extras in a wide vareity.
How much more can they include extras-wise? I see this a lot with movies, and not every release can have the bonus material of Ben-Hur, The Matrix, Aliens, Ten Commandments, etc.
I'm just curious as to what ML is basing his score on? Is there some other release that has even more extras? I think this score should be more on a sliding scale?
Anyway, certainly no complaing Martin, just curious!

Happy that the squad captain mustache guy is going to be in Fast Six, since he was way cooler than the main dude.

dont know how to explain well, but sometimes looks like an "oil painting"...there are compression artifacts yeah its true, but i suspect that is intentionally made in these way (for example checking the lights and colors)

I'm going to get this on blu ray regardless, but I really don't like the 'look' of the film with its washed-out colours. What I'm most worried about is that the blood will look more brown than red, which is annoying because I like my blood plentiful, and I like it RED.

Can anyone who has the uk (or US) blu ray tell me how the blood looks? I hear the indonesian version has more saturated colours than the us one.

In defense of the video quality; the director's previous film, Merantau, looked pretty rough on Blu-ray too. On this site's review, it also scored a 3/5 in the video. I am thinking they probably used the same equipment to film this on.
