I think Joss basically said it's like a nice way to kind of put a bow on the cancelled show and give them a last big hurrah. It's a pretty good one at that for a TV based movie. I think though i'll be picking the TV series up when i see it on offer again and really have the whole experience enriched. You can watch it as a standalone but i did notice that if you watch Firefly you're going to get all the character developments and really have the overall back story enriched a lot more

exactly. And it was because of us supporting the show and buying the DVD sets that made Serenity possible. It wasnt as big as it is now until the home release and Serenity was basically a big "gorram" thank you to us
