Never though of Herc or Hunchback as top-sellers, and I suppose their DVD treatments can attest to that. When did that happen, did sales hike overnight or something?

Well, they were pretty successful at the box office:
(Courtesy of Box Office Mojo)

The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Budget: $100 million):

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $100,138,851 30.8%
+ Foreign: $225,200,000 69.2%
= Worldwide: $325,338,851

Hercules (Budget: $85 million):

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $99,112,101 39.2%
+ Foreign: $153,600,000 60.8%
= Worldwide: $252,712,10

Frankly, I never understood why these two films never got a DVD reissue when many much more obscure and less successful films got them (The Aristocats, The Sword in the Stone, Saludos Amigos/The Three Caballeros, Robin Hood, etc.). True, they weren't as successful as The Lion King but they recouped their budgets, were not box office bombs, have positive responses from the audience and critics and were nominated for awards. I really have waited to upgrade both films and the new BD editions can't come soon enough.

So did anyone see the press release for Disney's 3rd quarter earnings? They cited home entertainment as an offset to the studios revenues. I wonder if this is why they've cut back on details (stacking discs, no disc art, no inside cover art, virtual vault, ect.) and why they're releasing so many titles so quickly. I hope they improve for the sake of physical media.

Neither are by no means top-sellers, but they are part of the most popular Disney period, The Disney Renaissance, which all of the movies in that period are pretty well known. By releasing the two titles all of disney's renaissance movies would be released next year. Just a observation.

I am watching the Rescuers right now and I think the restoration is great. Not perfect, from the little I'm seen there are some soft sorts and there is a noticeable hiss but overall it's pretty good!

I'm about to check the Rescuers Down Under and might actually do another comparison between the old DVDs and the Blu-ray

Agreed, it makes no sense. But if you can wait, DVD packaging becomes much cheaper after a short while. I'll be getting Pocahontas/Rescuers Day 1 because the coupon price was just too good to pass up, and I love those films. In general though, I wait a little bit and often get the DVD packaging for a huge discount. And I do prefer the silver lining on the Diamond releases.

Cars 1 + 2 and Toy Story 1 + 2 I got for ~$10 each while their Blu-ray packaging counterparts ran for $20+ even used. Bambi, Dumbo, and Lion King for $9 each, Lady and the Tramp for $15 (only a few days after release). All either brand new or mint condition with slipcovers from third party sellers. So some patience can pay off if you want that packaging. I'll be hunting for Cinderella soon...

I'll probably just end up buying them in the DVD packaging and bring it back to Best Buy to get the price adjustment

I disagree with the review too. Pocahontas is wonderful and not at all second-tier and he also says that Pocahontas 2 is not that bad when in fact is horrible. After I read that I just went forward to the technical specs and bonus material. I hope the review from this site is uploaded soon.

Awesome! Is it the US release? If possible, could you post some pictures from the package and confirm what trailers are included in this release? Thanks!

Well, I wish you luck with trying to change reality with the power of your mind , but Pocahontas wasn't an A-movie in the 90's, neither in critical or box-office terms.
It wasn't considered a flop in theaters--yet--since the other two in the "trilogy" hadn't happened, but was considered a "noble failure" of an attempt at a visually serious movie that was sabotaged by musical-formula tropes, its unmarketability to kids, and studio crossover issues (ie. trying to sell the Virginia park).

So, it never got the Platinum status, and was considered the first "Troubled" film of '95-'05 (breaking the Lion King's string brought heavy punishment), but the character's popularity with the little girls kept it out of 00's exile. And yes, the sequel was pretty foul.

Yeah, well everyone has different views. It wasn't a biased review though

Home Theater Forum has post a review for The Aristocats:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/32...blu-ray-review

The reviewer gives the video transfer a 4.5/5 grade so it can't look as bad as previously reported, right?

Also, according to the review, there are not new trailers, just the ones we've already seen before.

Nobody said it was terrible. Nobody.

And that site is awful. They gave Home on the Range 5/5 , they never mention any issues apparently, I wonder even if they take the time to actually watch the films they review.

I bet this site will give it from 3,5-4, depending on how forgiving they are willing to b and whether or not they are gonna compare it to The Rescuers restoration

From scorpiontail60 in The Aristocats forum:

"Well, Disney blew it. I cannot believe how badly they butchered this title with DNR. Their DNR jobs on their previous classics was well done. This time it was a disaster.

Here's ten comparisons of the Blu-ray with the HDTV broadcast:

http://imgc.rauch.co.uk/900
http://imgc.rauch.co.uk/901
http://imgc.rauch.co.uk/902
http://imgc.rauch.co.uk/903
http://imgc.rauch.co.uk/904
http://imgc.rauch.co.uk/905
http://imgc.rauch.co.uk/906
http://imgc.rauch.co.uk/907
http://imgc.rauch.co.uk/908
http://imgc.rauch.co.uk/909

You can see all detail has been stripped away. This is easily Disney's worst looking Blu-ray release yet. From The Fox and The Hound, Tarzan, and now this, something has happened at Disney's Blu-ray mastering department and it's not good.

I've canceled my pre-order. This is seriously disappointing that I'm now going to have a gap in my collection of Disney classics."

So here is someone

No seriously, I also don't trust Home Theater Forum but since is the first review that have arrived I think is good we read it to compare it with this site's review when it arrives in the following days.
