can blu-ray audio only be sent via bitstream through an hdmi cable, or can it also be sent through analouge RCA cables. I ask because i would like to connect a blu ray player to the tv via hdmi and to the receiver via analouge but i also want to be able to bitstream dtshdma and dolby true hd.

i sure did, and i couldnt be happier, nice to see that you remembered. Right now i have a ps3, but i want to upgrade to a standalone player that can bitstream both next gen audio formats. I want to connect the hdmi to the tv because i dont want to have to turn on the receiver if i want to put a movie in.

ok, let's see here.... that's really a tough one. I think you'll have to make a sacrifice one way or another, prioritize and go from there.
1) HDMI to tv, optical to receiver (no Lossless audio) 2) HDMI to receiver and TV (have to have receiver on... but with the 605 you can pass the audio through to the tv so the 605 can be turned down to zero) |

i have my ps3 hooked up trhough the receiver right now, its not that i really want to bypass the receiver, but i am going to upgrade to a new standalone blu ray player in the near future and i want to know how i will get the best audio and picture. My tv is a 40inch sony bravia and i thought that having the player hooked up to its hdmi input might make for a better picture than running it through the 605

The beauty of the 605 is that it is HDMI video pass through. That basically means that it relays the video signal on untouched. Are you using both HDMI inputs on the back of the 605 (cable/satillite/xbox360)? Receivers are great because they act as switcher's as well.

In this (future) situation, I would plug the BD player in through HDMI for best audio and video quality. I'd plug the HD Sat into the HDMI 2 input. At this point, you no longer need Lossless from the PS3, so I'd plug it into the Game input via Component for Video and Optical (bitstream) for audio. That should give you the best of all around. No worries on not getting the best out of your BD player... my $.02 |
