I understand he went a bit far by removing some KEY "COOOOL" SCENES, which gets on my nerves now and then, (like Hans shooting first scene, Pure classic). But I can't blame him for giving us his DIRECTOR'S CUT. I don't think kids from this age and day would care much for the orignal theatrical versions. they prefer the new cuts and so do I. I just wish some scenes remained the way they were (untouched).

I own the theatrical cuts and the special editions and I cherish them both as they show me how much passion and craziness a man can get trying to achieve the vision. and I understand the BD further enhances the CGI and other nitpicks.

I am waiting for the price drop so I can lay my hands on the new changes.

I didnt see star wars for the first time until I was about 5 and that was on home video in the early 90s and then I got the SE VHS set after they hit cinemas and loved them even more. I guess the majority that are against the changes saw them at or around the original release, with a small percentage of younger people still prefering the UOT.

And the majority that are ok with it are the ones like us that saw it long after it hit cinemas. And again there is a small percentage of older people that were around at the begining that like the new changes.

Who knows, in a few decades when that generation starts to fade away opinion on Star Wars will change. Imagine all these new generations growing up with Star Wars on Home video without anyone from the time of the original release to voice their opinion on why the changes suck.

I wonder if it will go that way, or if the legacy of the UOT will be that strong that it will transcend generations

Will we have Star Wars debates until the end of time!?

PS: I pray that he makes some changes to the PREQUEL trilogy as well before he quits the biz. and remove the abomination that is JAR JAR and those extra boring talkative scenes.
He didn't even direct Empire & Return...

Maybe he meant Producer's Cut?

Which when you think about is everything he hates about Hollywood, having films taken off the director and butchered by the number-crunchers, even though I'm coming at it from an odd angle (he wrote and directed the original after all) it all seems slightly askew whether you're a hired gun or not.

George should have supreme faith in the original theatrical versions, I've heard they did quite well at the Box Office and kids loved 'em!

Regardless of whether or not he directed Empire and Jedi, he did personally finance them and selected the directors himself. Morality aside, it's his Saga. But in the end, nobody is going to change is "vision" at this point in time.

Lots of films are personally financed by producers who've hired specific directors then cut the film to shreds much to the directors chagrin. The 'he didn't direct the last two' is the only argument we have, don't take it away from us!

Anyway FOX we're waiting for a price-drop....

Alright, I shall be merciful. You are hereby allowed to keep to that one argument only

I wonder what ROTJ would have been like if the union stuff hadn't stopped Spielberg from directing it.

It would have still featured the Death Star 2 and Ewoks because by this time GL had already decided that the commercialization of SW trumped the story of the SW.

How? This is thread for Blu Ray films not PS3/xbox games. You are aware these are two different things?

MODS can you get this stuff moved to games thread

Does it really matter? Since 99% of posters in this thread are SW fans so talk of a new SW games will be of interest and considering that 99% of talk in this thread has been about the blu rays does it really matter that 4/5 posts are about games?

But there is a GAMING thread. If I wanted to come on here are read/discuss xbox games or whatever, I'd go to gaming. But I don't.

Just the same as I don't want to go to the Star Wars Blu Ray thread and discuss Star Wars toys, t-shirts, lunchboxes, posters, etc etc etc

I see enough on here get frustrated about Steelbooks not discussed in the right thread ...... at least they are movies, not PS3 games.

We've always been a little off-topic here. The US one was the same as the thread started way before the BD's were announced. It doesn't hurt a thread to post the odd off-topic things. After all not everyone goes to the PS3, Movie or Television thread. We post 'Check This Out!' posts now and again if people are interested they'll go elsewhere to discover more in dedicated threads, if not they'll ignore the post and move on....

Whats an xbox????

Seriously, all the ****ing *****ing and arguing repeating the same old arguments over and over again and we get someone complaining when something fresh get's talked about. We might as well close this thread like the IM and US Star Wars thread.

Lucas said himself that he was so involved in the production of V and VI that when it came to doing the prequels he thought he might as well just direct them himself.
