Default Best Alexander Payne movie?

After you've voted on the poll (if you still can), explain why the movie you voted for is your favorite film that's directed by Alexander Payne.

I've never seen Citizen Ruth. Election is good, but nowhere near the others. From the others, I don't think I could possibly decide. But I'll go with Sideways.

I'm a big fan of all of his work (although I haven't seen Citizen Ruth yet), but Sideways is just an amazing movie all-around. Giamatti's performance is one for the ages, the cinematography is top-notch, and the screenplay was great. Sideways manages to maintain a great sense of humor, while being pretty depressing through most of its run time - which is definitely not an easy feat.

Election is a fairly close second favorite. It is pretty weird watching it now as a bunch of my high school classmates were extras in the film.

The Descendants and Sideways are almost even, in my opinion. But I just love the dysfunctional family in The Descendats a tad more than Giamatti's Miles. So I voted The Descendants. Payne is one of my favorites.

Citizen Ruth

It eviscerates BOTH sides of the abortion debate equally. That takes balls, as each side is going to be mortified by what they see.

Plus, I love watching people react when I recommend a "comedy about abortion". Most people have a hard time processing that concept and it always shows on their faces

Alexander Payne: One of my favorite directors. I have seen all his films (except Citizen Ruth). I have voted for The Descendants. I like The Descendants because this was a movie about character development and human connection. George Clooney acted superbly in this movie. The sideways is the second most favorite movie of his.

Honestly, they are all pretty great, but Election won it by a nose for me. It's just such a great film.

I'd Say:

Citizen Ruth: 9/10
Election: 9.5/10
About Schmidt: 9.3/10
Sideways: 9.4/10
The Descendants: 9/10

They need to get Citizen Ruth and About Schmidt on Blu-ray as soon as possible (with at least a couple special features).

Decided after About Schmidt that this is a director I'm gonna follow. To me,that is his best movie. The cinematographical metaphors is top notch along with acting, and a killer ending.Love Sideways too, especially the ending-one of the best ever IMO.Gonna watch the Descendants soon.

Default Yeah

Lots of people think that Nicholson's performance in About Schmidt is up there with the best of his career.

I've only seen the tv edited version of About Schmidt. I need to get that one. Didn't want to have to get the DVD though.
