Default Rotten Tomatoes' Jeff Giles has the right idea on "interactivity..."

So, they posted their story about HD DVD being dead, and the last paragraph was perfect. I've been so sick of people (sad-sacks now) commenting on the interactivity and all, when all I want is the movie to look its best. Here it is:

Quote:
You hear that, consumers? This is a time for celebration. Why are you crying, HD DVD owners? You have unparalleled offerings in interactivity and connectivity at an increasingly affordable price to look forward to!

Finally, a journalist or blogger who gets it!

I'll take top PQ and SQ in any title first. Anything after that is a bonus, but the movie quality comes first.

1.1 and 2.0 were developed to appease HD-DVD fans that will inevitability switch to Blu-ray now that their format is dead. Obviously Blu (not purple) fans don't give a crap whether they have interactivity and connectivity, because if we did, we would have bought the cheaper format.

Heh, I know that chick. Indeed - she's 16, and a NeoPets gamer freak. Not exactly the most enlightened demographic.

I want the full capacity of the disc to be used to store the maximum possible video and audio quality of the main feature. Should there be space left, put that interactive crap on there.... I won't use it, but it should appease the whiners and losers.

The only extras that ever mean anything to me are director and cast commentaries, but even then I only really care about the ones with meaningful cast members (I think the leads in every movie should be doing a commentary with the director, frankly). On a rare occasion something like the secrets revealed feature in Lost 3 is nice, but that's only because that show is obscenely convoluted in a way only it can get away with. The only movie I've ever really fully explored the features of is Lord of the Rings, but that's a special case.

Random side note: I really hate interactive menus that slow the viewing process down, I consider those a negative, not a positive. Standard DVDs have a bad habit of putting in those annoying things.

Second random side note: I despise with all my being those stupid previews they put on discs. Oh sure it's applicable for awhile, but seriously, five years down the road what the hell do you care about some B movie that was going to be in theaters five months after the disc released. This makes the most professional list of features on any disc go right out the window next to how unbelievably annoying and poorly thought out this is.

Somehow his manhood is threatened by the existence of HDTV and Blu-ray?

What a moron.

I'm not big on extras, but I'd like them included in the package because sometimes it adds to the re playability...and they might be cool.

*curtsies* Thank you! I'll be here all week!

astalder, I understand completely! I have nothing against bonus features, but unless your name is J.J. or Damon, I don't want anyone talking DURING my movie! Bonus features are to be watched AFTER the movie, or during a second viewing at least. As for 2.0, I have NEVER put an included DVD-ROM into my computer for online content, so I dunno what could make me use BD-Live, but it better be reeeeeeeally good. I mean like revealing the "smoke monster" good!
