Like Planet, or Herc, or Robinsons--and please tell me he wasn't scared off by that first Tangled teaser--one can occasionally read the wrong headlines if they're not open-minded enough to investigate everything. All he said he wanted was nudge in the right direction: "Wait, somebody said they liked Home on the Range, and Princess&Frog wasn't that bad?...Okay, this I gotta find out. ![]() (I mean, what if he only rented Atlantis and said "See, I was right!"? Can't have that, not on the Internet.) Last edited by EricJ; 08-28-2012 at 07:57 PM. |

Then the late '90s brought Pixar, and IMHO they stole Disney's thunder after that. But... Tangled interested me from the first teaser I saw. I just haven't gotten around to watch it. ![]() I have always been a fan of Golden Age animation, but lost interest in animation after the Renaissance of the early '90s. But I may give all those that you guys were mentioning (thanks btw for the highly detailed lists!), but it will take time. It's hard to buy the time to sit down and watch a movie nowadays. |

Definitely Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, but Aladdin and the King of Thieves has always been another favorite.

I'll have to say both Lion King sequels. Not that I will but them but at least I can stand them. They don't have horrible animation and are passable entertainment.

And while I do prefer the new Pooh feature, I think Grand Adventure has one advantage over it: it has more substance. At the end of Many Adventures, you feel like a lot's happened even though there really hasn't. The new Winnie the Pooh leaves you wanting more, something Pooh's Grand Adventure doesn't. Plus, there's no scene in the new film that really grabs your heastrings the way "Wherever You Are" does. So while I do prefer the canon sequel for being in-tune to Milne's universe and the presentation of Many Adventures, both it and Pooh's Grand Adventure come rather close to each other. Had the new film been 10 minutes longer and featured an emotional Pooh/Christopher Robin sequence the way Many Adventures had the "We Say Goodbye" finale and Grand Adventure had "Wherever You Are," it would've been perfect. I hope we get a Blu-ray release of this at some point. |

![]() It's not because I never had nostalgia for the sequels; I own most of the 92-2002 sequels on VHS and as a kid I still hated them. |

I watched it, and much to my surprise, I loved it. Yeah it still doesn't beat the beauty and romance of the original, but for what it is, it is great. I love how the movie is, in a way, how this generation of Disney fans view Cinderella, especially the Disney Princesses. In the original, Cinderella was very passive and reactive. In this one, she is definitely more active in her story. She KNEW she found true love, she REALIZES that her happiness is in jeopardy, and realizes that only SHE has the power to stop it. I also love that they expanded upon the role of Anastasia. Once again, I get that the idea is that Cinderella has TWO evil stepsisters that make her life a living hell. But I do believe in redemption, and I do believe that people can change, so I loved that they made Anastasia very likable and very human, and not just a clone of her sister. In that regard, I like that Prince Charming is given more to do in the story than in the original. Even if he is still far from an ideal leading hero, he too understands that he needs to fight for his happy ending as well. I know that as a Disney fan, I am breaking some holy rule about sequels etc., but Cinderella III proved to me that DisneyToon Studios had more than enough talent to do their own thing, and should have been a genuine part of the Disney company, not just an animation studio that pumps out mediocre to solid sequels to the animated classics. The other sequel that I truly, genuinely LOVED is The Lion King 1 1/2. For some odd reason, fans have claimed that this "ruins" the original movie. Yeah, it takes a satirical approach to the first movie while telling its own story. But it's not THAT bad. I actually love that it doesn't take an ultra serious approach to the story, but still manages to tell a solid story, one that both celebrates and pokes fun at the success of the original movie. In my opinion, the cheapquels go from "absolute trash" (Belle's Magical World, among others) to "harmless and forgettable" (The Lion King sequels, among others) but I cannot in good conscience say that one of them is good. They can have some saving elements but overall they are always a subpar product. |
