Not sure what you guys use, but I'm betting a laser printer would make a big difference in final appearance, laser printing gives you that glossy ink look..

I'm using a Brother MFC-J435W. I was always under the impression that it was pretty common opinion that laser printers are more often than not terrible for printing images. Commercially sold color laser printers are generally geared towards the office types (i.e. those looking to fire off 100 copies of the daily TPS report with a pretty colored heading and pie chart).

EDIT: Just did a quick lookup to satisfy my own curiosity. The most expensive color laser printer Best Buy sells (Brother MFC-4570CDWT: $599) has a dpi resolution of 2400 x 600. On the other hand, the cheapest printer they have under their Photo Printers category (Epson - Artisan A50: $99.99) has a dpi resolution of 5760 x 1440. That's a pretty considerable difference, made even more so when you consider what you're comparing.

Does anyone know a website that can print them out for you in the correct size for UK Blu-ray cases? I've tried a few websites but they don't do custom print sizes.

I'd love to have a Hellboy slip that has the Struzan artwork myself, but that is outstanding. Have you or anyone else made one for Serenity?

[Show spoiler]
This is now my next project. As I'm sitting here debating which to do next, I totally neglected the fact that my TV shows are grouped together and only a very select few don't have slips and it drives me crazy. So my very next project is to slipcover the remainder of my TV shows. I'll start with Serenity to see what I can whip up (and then move onto Firefly and the TV series').

I wonder if there's a suitable embossing machine for text and some basic artwork or borders. That would make them amazing to custom make.

Doubt it, the at home embossing machines crafters use here use stamps to do shapes. So in order to do a title I'm don't think the machines would be able to do that.

They use something like this.

And for slips I think they use something like this.

I mean if you have a few hundred grand laying around then you can get that bad boy right there.

Maybe we should run a kickstarter for one.

That....is a great idea...if we can get say 20,000 random people who love slips to fund $10....the possibilities but then there goes the fun of hunting slips

It won't take away the fun of hunting slips.

It'll just make making cool slips much easier.

All of these customs look great, but they still for the most part look like customs. I know that I personally would only want a custom slipcover if it actually looked like it could have come from the studio. Especially the spine, which is where a lot of these are coming up short.

And nobody has done the most obvious custom slip yet, which is one I've wanted to do for a while. I'll eventually try and get it designed, but until then, I'm not going to say what it is unless somebody guesses correctly.

That is one *****in' slip cover. You should make one for Hellboy 2. I'd be willing to buy something like that.

I'd pay for a nicely done Serenity slip. Favorite movie of all-time.

Here's my first go at Serenity:

This is only my fourth slipcover, so I'm still tweaking the process. This is also the first I've used actual photo paper on. It was 51lb Kodak soft gloss. And for being less than half of the weight of the cardstock I bought (110lb), it really doesn't feel that much lighter. It's noticeable, but not by much. Quality-wise, it did appear to make a slight difference (as expected), but honestly, I think I'm more partial to non-gloss. I still have to buy a pack of matte photo paper and see if that's perhaps the happy medium.

I agree. While all of these custom slips look great if I started making them I would at least put the studio logos and such on the spines. That way when they're displayed on the shelf they would at least somewhat match other slips.

I definitely think you guys need to take a que from the cover art folks and add the logos on the spines, but I'm still impressed with the amount of work you've put into each of your slips. Thank you for sharing and I'll second the love for the Serenity slip. Very nice, can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeves.

not sure what you're talking about, every slip i've made has the logo's on the spines and from what i've seen, everything enigma has done (except serenity) has had logos on the spines. i don't make the artwork myself. what i've done is come up with a way to take a pre made custom cover and turn it into a slipcover so the logo's are already there from the custom covers. i don't usually take pictures of the spines, but if you'd like i can line up every custom i've done and take a pic of the spines so you can see.
