Will Florida even play its starters, or will it start with 2nd string and move down from there?

Yeah I know they have to do whats best for the school, but man what a price to pay. Those type of beat downs can scar you for life lol.

That's my other point what do games like this do to help you get ready for real teams? You better off playing your scout team.

They don't do anything except get an easy win to make your record look better down the road come bowl season.

LOL... the spread for Florida St. vs. Savannah St. is 56.5 points.

FYI the spread for Savannah St.-Oklahoma St. was 67.5, the biggest in college football history, and OK St. easily covered.

And with the system we have now point differential matters. So those 84-0 type victories make a team look better.

some thoughts on the first Saturday of College Football...

1. my Oregon Ducks look GOOD.
Mariota was on fire and looked great with a lot of great decision making, confidence, and some PERFECT throws. hell, for being 18 the kid looked like he had the composure of Peyton Manning against almost any team besides a team that blitzes him well (). i do worry thought about how some of those VERY tight window throws will go against better defenses. against almost any major conference school (Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, Big East, ACC, MWC...) a few of those passes would have either been batted down or intercepted. worries me a bit, but Mariota should only get better with time and his running backs can certainly carry the load if need be

2. my Oregon Ducks defense looks BAD
i know it was Arkansas State, but that's exactly what worries me. it was Arkansas State! and we gave up over 500+ yards of offense and 34 points! i know when you're up 50-3 it's hard to stay motivated and 2nd and 3rd string played, and maybe they were trying some things out, but they better make sure they tighten up on D before conference play begins.

3. SEC is is very top heavy.
Yeah, Alabama killed Michigan and would kill any team in the Big Ten and almost any team in the country. but Florida has issues and played like crap. Georgia was laughably inconsistent against MAC basement dweller Buffalo, South Carolina looked ridiculously lousy and SLOW against Vanderbilt (yeah, an SEC team that is weak but improving).

either way, SEC is a great conference, but aside from Alabama and LSU, the rest of the conference, while good / at times great, didn't look real impressive in week 1. that could change in a heartbeat, but looks very top heavy to me.

4. Oklahoma State... awesome

5. Wisconsin. typical Badgers game play boring ol "fat white farm kid" football, get ranked too highly and barely beat an average / below average team. i'm from Wisconsin and i see this deal every year. high expectations for almost no reason and then they slowly diminish. last year was a year unlike any other and a few better coaching decisions and Wisconsin would have been a likely candidate for the BCS Championship game. that won't happen this year. at least 2 or 3 losses and no Rose Bowl.

6. Penn State... ouch looked solid in the first half, but football is a 60 minute game and emotions don't win games. Ohio looked damn impressive and it's gonna be a long year for Penn State.

7. West Virgina. sleeper team curious how they'll do in the Big 12.

8. I hope Boise State recovers (easy schedule should say yes). no offensive touchdowns? i wonder when the last time that happened! also, why is the team called BOISE STATE? no other team that isn't a state has "state" in their name? (i.e. you don't see "Auburn State", or "Miami State") so why does Boise get the "state" added? just curious

Mariota did look good he looks like he can be the next great QB at Oregon.

The good news is once the 2014 season starts teams will have to be cautious about their SOS. The selection committee is going to look at out of conference schedule very closely.

It still annoys me quality "mid-major" teams like Boise St. literally have to beg major programs to play them non-conference. Then those teams turn around and play garbage D1 teams and even I-AA teams instead.

Didn't nearly all those points given up happen in "garbage time"? It was 50-10 at halftime. I didn't see much of the game but I would imagine Oregon gave up most of those yards/points with their 2nd and 3rd string defensive players since the game was over before halftime.

Oh, I completely agree Chad. It's pathetic. And my team is no exception, we play Bethune-Cookman in two weeks. If we want an easier game, just schedule Kansas or something. FBS teams shouldn't be allowed to schedule FCS teams.

Hah, BCC is a school right here in Daytona. It's a tiny traditionally black I-AA college with barely 3,000 students. They're fairly decent (8-3 in 2011) for a I-AA school, but hardly a match for Miami.

Here's something amusing. Bethune-Cookman defeated Savannah St. last year 59-3. This is the same Savannah St. team FSU and Oklahoma St. scheduled this season.

Clemso has been working on reviving the rivalry with Auburn and with UGA but conference expansion has killed that. Joy, we can play Pitt or Syracuse now. I wish they had ulled the trigger on the playoff before all this needless realignment. Oh well

Pitt and Syracuse make the ACC much better in basketball, but really a good deal worse in football. Those two programs are as bad as they've ever been in football. Especially Pittsburgh, who just got embarrassed 31-14 to I-AA Youngstown St.

UGA the next 2 years but with 9 conference games and annual game with USuCk there will be no more of these games. It sucks for the fans but money drives everything and Swofford could care less about Clemson, Fl. St. and GT, who are in the same predicament we are in.

Yep, because taking the team 2500 miles to play in front of 40k fans (25k of which made the trek from SC) is waaaay more profitable than playing in front of 90k at home, or 2 hrs away. Oh yea, that's right, with adding teams that wont make bowl games, there will be the same amount of money split amongst more schools, thats where he'll make up the cash...

I'll now step off my soap box.

Va Tech - Ga Tech is supposed to be a good one tomorrow. Atleast we have 1 more game to look forward to.

points yeah, but in the first half they gave up TONS of yards. yeah, they were up by 30 or 40 by then, but they still gave up a lot of yards and 3rd down conversions. and from what i saw it was mostly to like, ONE receiver who was always open. they were definitely playing soft, but it worries me because they never had a reason to play anything other than that
