It's a FORMAT ad, not a player ad. The FORMAT defines 7.1 support, and the codecs support 7.1.

The Blu-ray ads (and promos) also promote 7.1. Of course, we can be pretty sure every BD player would handle 7.1 LPCM.

The HD DVD camp always play up what current BD players don't do as a format issue, and conveniently ignore what the current HD DVD players don't do.

I dont think Samsung handles over 5.1 PCM.

I would have thought it would amount to transfering the 7.1 LPCM audio stream from the disc into the output HDMI stream.

Do they ignore two channels, or would it mess up if they were there?

They can list titles that actually have 6 or 7 channels though... cos there are some!

And the Panasonic at least supports 7.1 with analogue outs.
