So it MUST be true.
http://www.smarthouse.com.au/HD/HD_DVD/Q8H5L3T5 Of course, one then has to wonder why Toshiba lost hundreds of millions of dollars and put two years of labor into convincing people to buy red in the first place when all they had to do was market upconverters. Unless they're really NOT the same. ![]() |

i have been noticing this statement alot from the red fanboys all over forums, and all i can think is "then why did you go out and spend 25-35 for red titles that are the same quality as upconvert? hmmm funny how suddenly real 1080p doesnt matter.

Anyone who owns a high def media of either type KNOWS that the upscaled DVDs don't look or sound anything like a truely native HDM disc. A Toshiba exec certainly does. This is all about spin:
". . . there is still "inherent value'' in the players . . . " It's just a lame attempt to create the perception of value and help the retailers unload them at a lesser discount. Last edited by chasarms; 02-21-2008 at 03:25 PM. |

Believe me, I have seen the best that standard dvd has to offer playing on an upscaled dvd player and guess what? It still doesn't hold a candle to blu ray in richness of color, clarity, and sound. So no, upscaled dvd is NOT equal to true 1080p blu ray. Even my weakest blu ray movies outshine the best of what I have in standard dvd.

Their lies would be much more credible if they hadn't just lost their HD format in the HD wars.

"from a kiosk in a retailer or at a public transport locations and then play it on their TV will be the next battle for Blu-ray."
Who thinks this will take off? I remember once many many years ago, buying a tape at tower records like this, just before CDs were really popular, you picked your songs and the machine would make a Tape. It was only around for maybe 6 months, there were others who tried the same thing with CDs. At least with songs you are at least creating a Mix tape. Why would you EVER think to do this with movies!!! I can see Downloads from home, but going to a store with some kind of media, maybe an ipod like device and downloading a 20 to 50 GB movie??? You still have to go to the store, you still have to pay for it, you don't get the box, or the Disk, it will be DRMed so I'm sure you can't transfer it, you won't be able to sell it used, I dobt the quality will be as good as BD. Why would you do this? I can see why the studios will want to do this, but we are the consumers and they have to listen to us? It reminds me of $1 coins. (in the USA) Since the 1970s the government has wanted us to go to $1 coins. They last longer than bills, they are better for vending machines (Don't need expencive bill scanners) and parking meters, and tolls. But Americans don't like them, and refuse to use them. The same thing will happen with the Download a movie at Wal-Mart, unless it's really cheep, $3 a movie or something like that. |

This is two year old FUD. Hell, I still see Tivo Dealer on AVS say this every so often, sober or drunk. Him and some other HD-DVD zealots. This is old hash recycled.
The bitterness, vitrol, and sour grapes are really reaching insane proportions already. |
