Default Panasonic DMP-BD50

Panasonic DMP-BD50 Blu-ray Player (Region A)
Panasonic DMP-BD50 Blu-ray Player (Region B)

Anyone know when the next generation Blu Ray from Panasonic will be available in stores?

By the first of June, and will include "within the Player" the capability to decode all the advanced high bit audio codecs, then passing that through via HDMI to your Receiver or Pre/Amp Processor for amplifying, then onto your speakers. I'm uncertain if it will be Profile 2.0 or not. [Jim]

It will be be profile 2.0. Cnet actually called the ethernet port the "BD-Live port."

It will be a fully-featured BD player.

Default high speed optical

Does anyone know how th new high speed optical port is going to work. Is this going to work on an older receiver to get lossless audio?

I tried contacting Panasonic to get any info on the release date but they replied to check soon in March.

I sware i keep checking Panasonic Blu-ray global site everyday hoping to see any new information.

I'm diying for this player. Does anyone think i should pick up the DMP-BD30k instead? I dont need internal decoding but i think the network feature is great.

Any suggetions ?

It better be around $500...

Props to them though if they make the smart decision and decide to go even lower.

I really think the 1st company to produce a high quality Bluray Player that is at a relatively affordable price compared the underfeatured/overpriced ones already out on the market will have a huge hit on their hands....

"The player is expected to ship this spring and a price is not being announced at CES. Panasonic assures us that the player will be positioned at a price point slightly above the DMP-BD30"

It is hard to say, but I doubt it will debut for less than a BD30.

What if the BD30 drops in price when the BD50 launches?

The 50 could be $500 at release. I am not saying it won't.

It seems to me that the 30 was $499 on release.

This is a more powerful machine with ethernet, internal decoders for all formats, more memory. Manufacturing prices have gone down I am sure.

But if manufacturing prices have gone down, Panasonic has not passed those savings on to consumers on the 30.

Why in the world would they debut their newer player, with more capabilities, the ONLY 2.0 player available at that time (probably),

..................for a discounted price??

Because they know that a boatload of people (case in point fence sitters and ex- HD DVD owners) are waiting for a well priced BD-Live featured player ?

They also know that if they don't get their player priced right, Sony is right around the corner with the S350, and soon after the Funai/ Sigmatek and other low end players (probably 1.1 only , but who knows) will make people think twice if they are priced around $200...

Ah, competition...
We'll see if Panasonic plays it smart...

If anything, I see them possibly reducing the prices when the Sony players come, not before.

They had the first 1.1 SA player and have not reduced the price since release. I don't see why people think they won't do the same with the first 2.0 SA player.

Oh, and people will buy this player at $699 too believe it or not.

Oh and "playing it smart", IMO it would be "smart" to charge a premuim for my player if it was the ONLY SA 2.0 player available.

Oh, and the S350 does not internally decode the audio codecs.

MANY owners of this player will be buying it to hook up to their mid/high end receiver/pre-pros that lack HDMI. They wont blink to spend $700 if the analog section is respectable.
