Yeah and 28 Days Later wasn't a zombie flick.

How many of you are going to put the Prometheus Blu-ray next to your Alien Blu-rays?. ALL OF YOU because it's an Alien movie.

Yeah, and separated by genre too...so they won't even be in the same 'section' in mine.

IMO "Prometheus" would not make the best blind buy. I saw it twice in theaters--so I am a fan. I was certainly left wanting more at the end of the film! It's strengths outweigh it's arguable weaknesses. See it yourself first! YOU be the judge...me? I put in my order for the Blu Ray 3D version straight away! Even went out and picked up a 3D TV so I'd be prepared

So it would seem that FOX is using "Prometheus" as the sacrificial lamb for it's massive roll-out of the digital download campaign. Since it did not do as well as hoped (domestically) it seems like the film was rife for something of an angle to get more of the untapped audience that was waiting for home video.
Interestingly, there was a cryptic "10-11-12" Weyland message at the end of the film credits in the theater (the exact date of the dvd/Blu Ray release)! Curious.

Nope. It's going after Robin Hood in my Ridley Scott section.

I genuinely think Prometheus is a bit of a compromised product. I know its stating the obvious but, Ridley wanted to return to space, but could only get funding through the Alien tie in. That is why I'm able to throw out much of the plot (and obligatory scares and tie-ins however effective) and dwell on theme. The first two thirds had me in such a spell that I could have forgiven anything. That's not to say it jumps the shark, because one of my favorite scenes is when Noomi Rapace's character is in conversation with a beheaded David and tells him something like "because I'm human is why I keep searching" I think it's such a sincere moment (almost reminescent of the great " tears in the rain" scene from Blade Runner) that I'm transfixed and however briefly look out and feel the expanse of space.

Many complain of the irrational behavior of the scientists, but then again isn't that the pleasure of Sci-fi, knowing these dangerous little seeds will overtake the narrative. As an example I think it's perfectly in place in the film to have the snake scene in the film: 1)it expresses our general lack of understanding of foreign environs & 2) it serves as sheer unabashed terror and relief, we never cared for him so what does it matter how he offs himself.

I suppose so, but the original film I've always considered more of a horror film.

I think Sci-Fi Horror might just be the best genre of all-time.

Prometheus is an Alien prequel in the same way that The Incredible Hulk is a sequel to Iron Man, IMO.

Exactly. They're in the same universe and both connect at the end but, are entirely different movies.

I think it's easier to hate on a movie when it's massively hyped like Prometheus. I think many people expected something incredible. I'm not a huge Ridley Scott fan (in fact , Im not a big fan of Blade Runner) but this movie delivered for me.

Scott says its a very "loosely based" prequel.

Well, I got what I expected, which wasn't much. Sci-fi, space, spaceship, exploration, visuals, atmosphere, a few scares. I didn't expect an alien movie, I went in to be surprised to whatever Ridley has to offer. I didn't mind the story themes and the basic plot as a whole. But is it too much to expect a good script? How can anyone deny the problems with the script is beyond me. I'm a geologist,
[Show spoiler]but the geologist in this movie that mapped the whole cave can get himself lost, and in perfect communication with the ship that also has the map.
This is just one of many things that took me out of the movie. The script will fail as an assignment in a film school.

I'm not a hater, I'm buying the blu-ray. But sorry guys, I'm not gonna deny that it has issues, they're too obvious to ignore.

Now I'm not fond of the idea of a Blade Runner sequel anymore.

So, who are you going to believe? Ridley Scott or Ridley Scott?

Hint: Listen to the last Q and A.

Here Lindelof explains why it is not a prequel: http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00051147.html
