The main problem I have with Pierce's predictions (I have several) is he is forgetting or purposefully ignoring FCC's mandate that in 2009, all TV broadcasts must be HD and all TVs sold must be capable of showing those broadcasts. Does he really think DVD will last much longer after that? Once the public gets a taste of HD and once there is a large installed based of HDTVs, DVDs' days are numbered. Whether DVD will be supplanted by an optical format or by downloads to a device like the PS3 is irrelevant in the foreseeable future because of the broadband issue that Pierce himself seems to acknowledge.
