1. Casino Royale - This movie is why I got a PS3. It's now my favorite Bond film and the video really pops in places. I've watched this 4 or 5 times already.

2. Cars - Although I like several other Pixar films quite a bit more, the Blu-ray version of this movie adds so much over the DVD version, especially in the audio department. The growl of the engines is fantastic. This movie came alive much more on Blu-ray than it did on DVD, that's why it gets a nod.

3. (tie) Surf's Up - I got this as a blind buy and it was even better than I thought it would be. I totally 'got' what they were trying to do with the documentary style. It's one of the few films I've watched all the extras on in the last year. Very cool stuff on how they achieved the handheld camera feel. I feel if this had been labelled a Pixar film everyone would be raving how great it is.

3. (tie) Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - The audio and video on this are outstanding. You can really crank the audio on this one and it doesn't get fatigueing.

I have other films such as Black Hawk Down, The Departed, and Cast Away that I think are better films than most of the above, but the Blu-ray presentations of the top 3 I listed are spectacular examples of how good the Blu-ray format can be.

I totally agree, I bought this because I thought it would be fun for my 2 year old and found myself really enjoying it.

i'm not putting cars and ratatouille on there. chicken little either. animated movies of course are going to look fantastic in blu, some more than others. since the majority of movies are live action, ill give you those

1. Lost Season 3. Best PQ to date of any blu, and I love Lost.
2. Pirates 1: the only pirates movie that was actually good, before they went into ridiculouslyabsurd territory. and top notch pq.
3. Con Air?The Rock. Equal PQ, Equally favorite movies starring my favorite actor.

1. Sunshine. Great video and audio and a killer soundtrack. Moody, suspense, and a great story. I can see myself watching this movie many times.

2. The Fifth Element (remastered). This is a fine example of why we all love Blu-ray movies. Superior display and sound. This movie comes alive in a 1080P display on my 57 in screen.

3. I wanted to say 300, but to limit myself to only 3 choices, my third would be almost everybody's choice: Casino Royale. Brilliant video and sound. Clear, clean, crisp images. Great story and acting. You must own this film if you are a serious Blu-ray supporter!

My top 3 are:

Casino Royale (introduced me to blu and I am a big James Bond fan)
300 (my Greek grandfather would have loved it)
The Warriors (one of my favorite cult classics and a great transfer for an older film).

Bladerunner (same reasons as everyone else)

Kingdom of Heaven (superb picture! and excellent movie!)

Vacancy (haven't seen this one mentioned yet but to me it has THE BEST picture quality of ANY blu-ray title I own. Its a dark movie and the blacks are as pure as you will see).

- The day after tomorrow: PQ/AQ is excellent and CG is great (except the wolves). I liked the story of the father anf the son as well.
- Happy Feet: Very entertaining especially with the songs and dances
- X-men 3: Great PQ/AQ. Absorbing storyline. Great special effect

(Can I add one more?)
- Apocalypto: It's gory but very thrilling.

By the way, all of them were blind buy!

1. Kingdom of Heaven - Wonderful movie. Great story, absolutely stunning visually, and if you have a solid sub you'll feel like the rocks and balls of flaming pitch from the catapults are landing just behind the couch.

2. 300 - The sparseness of the story and the styling of the visuals really enhanced this one for me, it truly is as if the graphic novel had come to life. I will admit, however, that I'm a bit distressed that this seems to be the first exposure most folks under 40 have had to one of the truly pivotal events of Western Civilization.

3. King Arthur - One of the grittier and less fantasy-oriented retellings of the legend, I really enjoyed this one.

Honorable mention: Underworld, POTC:AWE, Shoot 'Em Up, The Fifth Element.

1. Planet Earth - Picture quality is superb! Best HD I've ever seen. Any very interesting content.

2. Blade Runner - Excellently mastered on Blu-ray and one of the best Science Fiction movies of all time. Plus, the different versions make it a must-have.

3. Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Great packaging, content, and mastering.

Good thread. It gives us newbies a few ideas. I will be getting Cars, Casino Royale, and 300. I already own 300 on DVD and HD dvd. Why not Blu-ray.
