Default surround sound

thinking of picking up these to go with my
Sony STR-DG910 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver
3 sets of Sony SSF-6000 Floor Standing 4-way Speaker Pair.
this for the center Sony SS-CN5000 Dual 5.25" Center Channel Speaker
and the Sony SA-W3800 Performance Line 15" 200-Watt Subwoofer.
What do you people think?Any ideas would be nice pro or con.
Thank you very much

Yikes! Sony isn't very praise worthy when it comes to their sound output capabilities. Their receivers and speakers often lack in crossover range, which leaves sound playback feeling flat.

The only situation that would make me buy Sony speaker equipment is if I HAD ONLY A CHOICE between Sony and Bose!!!

...are you thinking of using floorstanding speakers as "surround" speakers?

That would be overkill...look for bookshelf speakers for surrounds.

well, I guess if you will be using it for music and you have the room...then there would be nothing wrong with floorstanding as surrounds. For the average movie watching, its not necessary but since you have other use for it I dont see a problem. Just remember, 3-4 ft tall speakers don't blend in too well with furniture.

I built my 5.1 with floor standing for music.. I later changed out the rears and surround for smaller units. Music is still great, and I gained a lot of floor space and my wife's smile

Agreed that the speakers aren't very good, but they are cheap. For your budget, best bet would probably be Fluance speakers - cheap, but much better than the Sonys. With all the speaker manufactures available, I have no idea why someone would buy Sony.
