I liked the film, I like the look of the steel, but at an extra £9 is it really worth it (I don't use 3D).....

Hmmmm, decisions

It is a tough decision to make - I've had it pre-ordered since it was announced and not a day goes by where I don't think about cancelling it. It looks absolutely superb, but £23.99 is VERY expensive.

I don't use 3D either, and I don't even like it, so what I'm doing is simply paying £9 more for a bit of tin

I have heard a rumour the 3D version also has the bulk of the extras, so there's an excuse to keep it.

After reading the Empire review, I decided to cancel my Steel order. I will just keep the 3D order from sainsbury's and save £9.

But are the extras in 3D? Because, if so, I can't watch them anyway.

I had the same hard decision and cancelled the steelbook. Plus I dislike 3D movies.

Why what does the empire review say, is it about the film or the bd?

It's about the film, to me does not sound like it's a movie I would be prepared to spend so much extra on just to get the steel, that's all. They did not really mention the BD, for example they say that the extras were so top secret that they weren't shown them or even allowed to know what they were... They gave the movie 3/5 but no score for extras.

I still want to get the movie, but just don't want to pay over £20 for it, especially as it's a blind buy for me.

I wouldnt trust Empire's review! I like Empire and its about the only magazine I buy these days but their blu-ray reviews are useless to be honest.

Well, perhaps I just used them as a reason to convince myself that the Play.com steelbook price is way over the top.

Just reading the last 1-2 pages of this thread and i've gone and cancelled my order.

I didn't really rate the movie so after reviewing my few self imposed Steelbook rules, I really don't know why I ordered it.

Isn't that a tad too early? Or do you mean the week after this week?

Lets hope you dont regret that decision when you actually watch the film then! I watched it and loved it, steelbook had to be ordered. And its Ridley Scott of course so I dont need any more reasons than that.

Well only way I think I will regret it is if the 3D amaray comes with no slip...
If it comes with a slip, then I'm happy to leave the SB for someone else who wants it more than I do.

Also, part of me does not want the person responsible for the high price to think it was a good idea when they decide on the price for the next movie... I want to encourage cheaper prices, but I can only do my very small part.

No but there have been films where the extras are actually on the 3D disc (Tramsformers DotM) And you can't watch them unless you have a 3DTV and player.
