Prometheus Review Thread (Spoilers)

Like many of you here, I've already seen the deleted scenes and now I have to wonder...

[Show spoiler]Even though most of the scenes offer nothing to the movie, the scene were Fifield and the other guy find what appears to be the shed skin of xenomorph, I wonder. Why shoot it? Why delete it? What was the intention of the scene?

I haven't seen that scene (Waiting for the blu) but it is odd that it is giving the audience information it already had. Here is my take:

[Show spoiler]Its obvious that the engineers had created the xenomorphs as a form of biological warfare (The black goo evolves into them eventually) to be used to wipe out the humans and replace them with a superior form of life. We know that both from the deleted scene and from the mural inside the chamber that showed the xenomorph. To decorate that chamber in that manner leads me to believe the engineers were very proud of what they had created. And one got loose and was killing them as seen in the security footage.

Its alluded to that the engineers wanted to wipe out the humans because we had killed Christ, in the movies lore Christ was actually an engineer. We know this because when the ship is dated they discovered it was from about 2,000 years ago. Why, what event in human history lines up with that? This plot point was made explicit in an early draft of the script. But if it was explicit in the final version can you imagine the outrage?

So that deleted scene make a bit more sense now because now we know exactly how the engineers were killed. And it helps get the point across I explained above. But then again...what happened to

[Show spoiler]that origional xenomorph?

On a side note the constant complaining about questions not being answered bothers me, as there isn't a whole lot you can't figure out if you think about it. But I guess thats what people hated about it, it's a film that refuses to think for you. On top of that it was sold as an Alien film, when it turns out it wasn't I guess people were even more upset, like the film tricked them as an action movie but turned out to be a thoughtful piece of science fiction.

I give up. It's not worth it. It was a terrible movie and most people know it but if you've all found a way to enjoy it, more power to you. I wish I was as blind to its failings but this was a disappointment of CRYSTAL SKULL proportions, imo.

Comparing it to Crystal Skull is out of line IMO and Prometheus isn't a horror movie like the first Alien, it's sci-fi. I'm glad the new cover art for the 3D blu-ray illustrates that.

C'mon, duggie walker, don't give up! Just look at the prequel/special edition/Lucas haters in the "Star Wars" thread! Do they ever give up? No! They just keep going, and going, and going! Just like the Energizer battery!

I dunno about that. It may not be as filled with horror like "Alien", but it has plenty of horror elements; the snake-thing doing what it did, the zombiefied crew member, a squid-thing, an even bigger squid-thing and a violent alien that rips the head off a droid and proceeds to go ape-shit on everyone else. A movie that is quite simply "Sci-Fi" would be more like "Stargate", "Star Trek", "AI: Artificial Intelligence", or "2001: A Space Odyssey". Not a single horror-type scene in them. It may have started off as a plain, old Sci-Fi movie, but after the introduction of the alien creatures, it definetly leaned more into the horror genre.

The other explanation that makes better sense is that the engineers were the original Greek/Roman gods and they decided to wipe out humanity because they turned to secular religion.

No. Doesn't work. The movie takes place around X-Mas time. There is talk of something big happening 2,000 years ago. And the final hint that they're refering to Jesus Christ is all of the sacrificing that goes on in the movie. The only Greek/Roman connection I can see is the name of the ship.

So he basically took it, changed some things up, made it overly complicated than it should be and then planned on having a sequel aka cash grab.

It's bs. Should have just left it as is, there was absolutely no suspense in this film.

Besides that, there were a lot of other things not in this film - a good plot, decent dialog, interesting and believable characters, a decent score and also good acting (except for Fassbender and Rapace (and even Rapace was a bit lacking at times, especially her accent)).

As for the Prometheus apologists - I have a bridge to sell you ........

Thats a valid point. But i think we should lower our expectations on the IQ level of scientists in movies. Think of them as explorers or adventurers with little science knowledge, definitely not scientists. And moreover scientists are not as hot as Noomi
