Had a pleasant surprise on my mail-pile after returning from my trip to Vegas & Cali....G vs. Megalon on DVD had arrived. I honestly didn't expect it to ever get released at all, considering the source!

I got my Thai DVD for Godzilla 2000. This DVD is confusing as hell. First off, it's the American cut. It's a telecine sourced transfer, much darker than it should be and the left hand of the screen has some strong distress and the light keeps getting stronger and stronger in terms of brightness. The subtitles do not match the English audio. It's an odd combination of the translation of Japanese and the English version combined. The biggest thing is that in the subtitles, they refer to the "Regeneration G-1" by original name in the Japanese version; "Organizer G-1" which they shortened to get the name "Orga".

The box falsely states that it has Japanese audio. The specs on a lot of Thai releases are usually incorrect whenever they list stuff. And Super X from the 1984 Godzilla is on the back cover for some reason.

I should sit down and watch my Godzilla movies one day. I have a good half of them I think. And some of them are region free bootlegs of the Japanese movies with english subtitles, including 84 and Biollante.

It's from Mongkol V.D.O.& C.D. which is a real Thai studio. A lot of Thai DVDs look like bootlegs.

Just recently got back into Godzilla after a while - My wife absolutely loved Final Wars, and I realized that I really needed to own a few of my favorites from the original Showa series.

Shame so many of them are out of print here in the states. I really need to own the original Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla, as it's always been my favorite.

I got more Thai DVDs in today. Sorry that the quality of the photos came out bad.

The first one is the 1974 Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla. The seller who I got it off of on eBay said that this was the only copy he could find. I know that this has been OOP for years because I believe the last time I saw this copy from EVS pop up was in 2009 from some legit Thai DVD shops. The cover art on all of the EVS DVDs are confusing as hell. The back cover has images from Terror of Mechagodzilla and GMK as well as some model of the Godzilla 2000 G design.

All of the Thai EVS Godzilla DVDs, except for Destroy All Monsters has some strange encode. Some players display them correctly in 16:9 and some stretch to 4:3. Same is true with this Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla DVD. Seems sourced straight from the original Japanese version. All of the titles on the film are Japanese. The DVD is Region All has Japanese and Thai 5.1 and Thai 5.1 DTS audio with Thai subs.

This Godzilla Vs Spacegodzilla by L.H. Thailand Co. LTD. is not a "Remaster" as claimed. It's sourced from the Sony DVD of the film. Disc contains English and Thai audio with Thai subs. You cannot access the menu until the film ends and it's the same menus from the Sony DVD. The only thing that was altered was the Set Up menu. But other than that, it's the same. DVD is Region 3.

I nearly had ALL the Godzilla movies on DVD, this included R3 Hong Kong Heisei Godzilla titles, and unfortunately I had to sell them to help to get my HDTV and Blu Ray DVD player. The sad thing is that some the U.S versions of these movies will never, never, never, see the light of day as a Blu Ray release. It was even difficult to get "proper" releases on DVD, save for Toho's International dubs with differ from the U.S. dubs here.

I was always been told that Toho's releases for Godzilla movies weren't even nothing to rave about (as well as the Blu Rays).

Never say never. As crappy as the audio was for it, probably because it was sourced from an old, warn out, busted VHS tape, the Media Blasters Blu-ray for Destroy All Monsters had the old AIP dub as well as the Toho Dub.

Given some news that I read recently, Dreamworks bought Classic Media. So, if Dreamworks wanted too, through FOX since they inked a deal with them, we could potentially get the rest of the titles they own on Blu-ray. That would be; Godzilla Raids Again; Mothra Vs Godzilla; Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster; Invasion of Astro-Monster; Godzilla's Revenge; Terror of Mechagodzilla; Rodan; and War of the Gargantuas.

That be so cool but I've heard legitimate criticisms that Toho's releases on Blu Ray are sub-par at best meaning they could be so much better. Some Blu Rays aren't that much of major difference compared to the DVDs. I sometimes wonder what The Mysterians looks like.

I've been told that Criterion's Godzilla Blu Ray is the best print of the film to date, though.

I think the restorations weren't handled properly, from what I've read through translations is that they were done in 1080i. Media Blasters used the Toho remaster for Destroy All Monsters and it's pretty rough and inconsistent. I wrote a review here on the site and I gave the video a 3.5/5. This is what I had to say:

Colors do pop out with great definition, like with how green the grass and trees look while Anguirus is on Monster Land in the opening of the film for example. Video scores a 3.5/5.
If you all ready don't own it, good luck finding it at a decent price since it's out of print all ready. Copies can go as low as $60 depending when you look for it.

It is. They did their remaster from the negative like Toho did. From what I read and saw in screencaps a few years ago when they were coming out in Japan, the remaster for Gojira was oddly blurry. It wasn't the same from the Classic Media Blu-ray which was an old HD master that was never cleaned.

I have been a big Godzilla fan since childhood. I own the majority of them on DVD, nearly all of them vhs and DVD combined. My favorite so far is by far GMK, but I really cant wait for the upcoming 2014 movie.
