Hunger Games Mockingjay FS Steel arrived. My favorite steel as of now. It's beautiful.
Last night watched Back to the Future Part 1 & 2 Would you believe that I have never seen these movies? I only planned on watching part 1 but enjoyed it so much I popped in part 2. Part 1 was great and for such an old movie I really liked how I could relate to it. It really has aged well. Part 2 wasn't as good but still highly enjoyable. What can I do with my digital copy of Hunger Games? It can only be redeemed from the Canadian store and I don't want to have to deal with swapping accounts and syncing and all those hassles that come with itunes. Crispin Glover was great in it, but too bad he isn't in the other ones. I'll need to pick up 2 and 3 too so I could see them. |

Edit: thought I would be productive while my girlfriend is at a job induction for Dick Smith (staff discount!) and went to a Westfield shopping centre nearby. Found a Robin Hood steel at jb hifi which was there last in stock for $15.95. Last edited by devil6621; 09-27-2012 at 08:38 AM. |

^ Someone's been bit by the credit card bug!
![]() ![]() ![]() Lean delivery week this week - only the SteelBook stands so far. Maybe Friday will bring some luck otherwise next week will be a big one (Indy, Jaws, Titanic, Avengers and maybe even Bond). Watching: Donnie Darko. Been a little while so it's time for my (probably) millionth viewing. Love the film... My copies of The American President and Dave also shipped. Awesome. ![]() Last edited by gettodamoofies; 09-27-2012 at 10:37 AM. |

I'm doubtful, we get so few steel-books to begin with. I just got it for fun, as I wanted to see the film anyway, and I didn't own any SBs at the time. They were also quite reasonable at $15.98.

I watched The Sting this afternoon.
I had a sinking feeling as this one started, because the screen was full of quite visible static grain. I'd heard comments of this being (over-)DNRd, and I thought they'd put an artificial grain back in to try to compensate, and botched it. But no, it turned out to be the optical layer for the titles; when they went away, so did what looked like the frozen swarm of gnats. Phew. Overall, thumbs up for this transfer. It's not reference-quality dazzling, by any means — it has that mushy soft-focus look typical of 70s films, so it's never going to have a cellophane crispness to it — but it's a clean transfer, a well-resolved image with solid colours and a period palette that hasn't been "corrected" for modern fads. The dialogue is clear and the score, in particular, sounds great. (Just as well, since it's one of the best features of the film!) It's a movie that, for obvious reasons, is never going to have the same punch as it did the first time you saw it, but I was pleased at how rewatchable it is. It has memorable performances across the board, and although it was made before the modern trend towards self-aware meta-humour, it still has a few smiles along the way. I got the UK digibook, and it's beautifully done. The matt covers and period palettes of the Universal books are really quality stuff; in this case, it's only let down by garish low-res disc art that's quite badlly executed. All in all, a release I'm very happy to have in my collection. |

Watched
Payback Watched the Director's cut, which is a shorter, considerably different film to the original theatrically released version. I felt this was a much better film, and I find it weird saying this even as I am typing it out, as I truly enjoyed the final 3rd of the original cut of the film. |
