Default White House Down

Quote:
First Look: Roland Emmerich’s ‘White House Down’ Starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx

Anyone who follows me on Twitter probably knows that last week I was in Montreal visiting the set of Roland Emmerich‘s White House Down. Unfortunately, that’s literally all I can say about it for now. But I’m not Entertainment Tonight. The TV entertainment show also visited the set (on a different day) and while I may be embargoed until closer to the film’s June 28, 2013 release date, you can watch their set visit right now.

Directed by Emmerich from a highly sought after script by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man), Channing Tatum stars as a Secret Service agent who is forced to protect the President (Jamie Foxx) when bad guys take over the White House. Think The Rock but instead of Alcatraz, the most famous residence in the world. Check out the footage below.

Quote:
This is very difficult to write, simply because I have so much cool stuff I can say about this movie. The video does touch upon some of it though. Emmerich’s team obviously couldn’t shoot the film in the White House, so they did an incredible room by room recreation on multiple sound stages. It’s also not lost on anyone that Emmerich is one again doing a White House film that will, once again, be released right around July 4. The 14 months turn around from sale to release also exhibits pretty strong confidence in the film.

Obviously, check back in the coming months for much more on White House Down leading up to its release. And expect a trailer…oh, nevermind.

Do you like the concept of the film? How about Channing Tatum as the lead in a big budget action film?

This is one I've actually really been looking forward to. Emmerich can be hit and miss, but when he gets it right, it's usually in spades so I'm hoping that's the case with this one. Some of the best action movies are the ones that take place in a confined area or building, like 'Die Hard', 'Air Force One', 'The Rock', and 'The Raid: Redemption', and I'm hoping that this is one that can be added to that list. I've recently come around to Tatum as well, just because he was so good in '21 Jump Street'. If he can bring the charisma to the role that he had in that, this movie could be solid all around. Hoping for the best.

Well, have to admit, I'd rather he jump THAT pony through the hoop again than his recent personal taste for eco-fear/conspiracy...

(Kept looking at the plot and saying, "C'mon, it's Emmerich, where's the tinfoil?--Is there going to be some subplot where the Secret Service turn out to be in cahoots with the Pentagon, or something? Even ID4 had a little Area 51 in it!")

Yea man I instantly liked Tatum after watching Step Up back in either 06-07. It was just sumthin about him. Then I see a lot of people in these forums hate on him. Then he starts getting film roles after film roles and I knew that these producers and directors saw what I saw. I think he is a very good actor and he hasnt even hit his prime yet. I think he will be a big star if he isnt already. He was very good in 21 Jump Street. I also liked him in The Vow which I watched recently. Im sure this will be a very good film. Got Em!!

I really like Foxx and Tatum, but Emmerich makes me nervous. The only film he's directed that I liked was Independence Day(probably because I was too young to know any better). The actors, and the premise, are enough to keep me interested, but still skeptical.

I had to check to see whether this was the same movie as "Olympus Has Fallen", and.....it wasn't.

That this one is Roland Emmerich's version, um, explains a lot.

Eh, I like Roland Emmerich. He makes some entertaining films. I still enjoy 'Independence Day', 'The Day After Tomorrow', and 'The Patriot'. And on a much more guilty pleasure list, 'Godzilla'. His films are usually entertaining, so I don't think this one will be any different. In fact, I think this may be one of his better films in the end, one that isn't an end of the world, weather catastrophe, or giant monster or alien invasion. This could be very fun.

I have to agree with this.
[Show spoiler]I was at a test screening last night and I must say it is a fun ride. Although a lot of VFX weren't complete yet it was still fun. Actually reminded me a lot of Independence Day.

I will never quit telling people to stop associating guilt with pleasure. The world's crappy enough as it is. If you like Emmerich's Godzilla remake, then don't be ashamed to admit it to yourself and others!

My biggest problem with Emmerich is all the stereotypical, patriarchal characters in his movies but that's largely a fault of Hollywood as a whole.

Being popular and someone studios are putting in movies more and more doesn't mean he is a good actor. It just mean he has apeal (for one reason or another). I don't have anyting against the guy, I'm just saying that appeal and ability are completely different. Both can sell tickets, but only wins the oscar.

Since most of this was shot on sound stages minutes away from my work, I can't wait to see it. I have a few friends who worked/acted in it as well... Should be fun!

Emmerich is hit or miss for me, but I'm definitely seeing this one in theaters.
