Amazon's cover art is from back when Fox put up the pre-orders for the film before it even came out in cinemas. They just haven't updated to the final cover art yet.

I enjoy having to use my noodles once in a while
I still stand that it's the poor writing, or the lack of extra footage that was cut, or just not shot that made this feel incomplete. Yes, there is a sequel coming and this ended leading to such, but I didn't get the sense that this was one of those "ambiguous", "how do you think this happened" ending. Inception is a prime example of a very ambiguous movie. It gave you plenty of clues to make YOU draw your own conclusion
[Show spoiler]I'm still torn between it's either reality at the end, or he has come to terms with what happened, he doesn't care anymore because he's not haunted by guilt anymore.
. Another Nolan film, The Dark Knight Rises. The ending
[Show spoiler]where Alfred sees Bruce and Seline enjoying their dinner. As "happy" and complete as that was, I still felt I would have enjoyed a cut at seeing Alfred's smile; that alone was more than enough for me to definitely know he saw them and he was still alive.

You guys have your opinions, and that is perfectly fine. Personally, I don't think this was as great as I expected; a mix of bad writing, and possibly too much editing or cutting out stuff without condensing the info down to size rather than out completely. It felt incomplete in the theatrical run to me.

All you guys saying, "It leaves you to guess", "It answered everything"-- Please, enlighten and "school" me on how I missed something. I'm stating my opinion, but giving exact details and reasoning. I haven't read anyone saying it's great go in detail, but please give details, or give me answers to what you concluded. Without that, you're just defending the movie because you loved it, which is fine, but calling us "non-thinkers", or insinuating it, it doesn't make sense.

I'm late to this particular Prometheus brawl but assuming this is a genuine request to explain some things I'll play ball. I agree some things are weak as far as character development, the supporting scientists for one, not sure if there is any explanation there.

But if you have specific questions I'll answer with what I understood the film to be saying.

I thought Fox already confirmed a sequel set for 2014, and a new writer, but Ridley to direct again.

But if you have specific questions I'll answer with what I understood the film to be saying.
It's not a brawl by any means, just I said my reasons already why I thought it to be disappointing only for the bad writing:

[Show spoiler]Faults with it that won't change but were stupid: Why did Charlize Theron commit to the dumbest death I've seen this year? Yes, if you run straight instead of diagonally, you're that stupid you have to be committed to want to die; in this case, chalk it up to bad writing. Why wasn't there any arc to the character of Idris Elba? In the beginning when the two biologists were in the chamber, he very jokingly and carelessly said they can stay there overnight. Yes, you can chalk it up to "well at the end, the risk of Earth being destroyed or under attack of the Engineer made him want to be hero", but why all of a sudden? Not enough screen time for his character to show he even second guessed it, when he immediately let his teammates in danger and to their death-- Did they even show his reaction? I can't recall. Again, why cut out the reason why the Engineers, who created us, wanted us dead? Sure, maybe they wanted to start from scratch if they thought we were ****ed up, but to not answer it in the movie is ridiculous. What did David say to the Engineer that set him off? I heard it was, "This man (Weyland) wants to live forever." Blah, blah. It shows their creation's greed, but again-- I got that from reading it from post interviews. Why should I have to guess that? Sure, the pieces were there that Weyland was greedy, but a little more clear cut would have been nice.

I could go on, but this video asks more questions that weren't answered, points out stupid plot holes in a funny way, so I'll link you guys:

They explain why the engineers wanted to destroy humans by carbon dating them at 2000 years - it was due to the rise of secular religion. This is further explained with the star charts which are present in every society up until Christ. The fact that the engineers are made to look like the Greek/Roman god statues (think Praxiteles) is another nod towards this.

The end of the movie where Shaw fails to understand that her God was the reason the engineers want to destroy humans brings her character full circle in her failure to understand but it's also used as a plot device ato specifically point the audience back to the rest of the movie to look for the clues.

This reading of the movie is supported regardless of if you choose to believe that it was because Christ was an engineer or if the engineers turned against humans because they abandoned them.

I strongly disagree here...all those points are valid to me. Hey, I like this film. I'm going to buy it and look forward to seeing it again. I loved it visually and was entertained by it, and honestly I don't mind not having answers to plot points, that doesn't matter....but almost all of the things they ask there aren't loose plot points, they're decisions made about and by characters within the film that don't really make much common sense. I would love to be proven wrong about those points brought up right there (seriously, I'd love some explanation to them), but I haven't seen them addressed anywhere...so for now, I just fault the film for not making much sense.

...and those guys are always fantastic. Their full 20+ minute review doesn't criticize the film constantly, it praises a lot of aspects and questions other ones...it's pretty fair and accurate to me.

I know, I know..this isn't the discussion thread on it, but I wanted to respond to everything above.

What do you want? Do you want them to provide every little minor details like what was the black goo? Do you realize how boring it would be to sit through a movie filled with all the unnecessary details. Think about how long the movie would be then. There are things that you just leave to your imagination. Besides the answers that they are looking for aren't supposed to be in the movie. You have to watch the documentary or making of the movie to learn them. That is only possible when the movie comes out on blu-ray.

I can honestly understand complaints about the scriptwriting with regard to some of the supporting characters, decisions made, etc. I have a couple quibbles in that area myself, even if they don't bother me all that much. But what I don't get are complaints leveled against what is or isn't revealed about the engineers, the liquid inside the canisters, etc. This is stuff that's supposed to be mused about - much like we didn't find anything out about the space jockey or the creation of the Xenomorph in the original Alien. That's the kind of stuff you're supposed to hypothesize about and come up with theories about - at least until the sequel sheds more light on them.

Then I think you understand where I'm coming from.... because what I was referring to was my agreeing with/having those character-based complaints. I'm not complaining about what's revealed about the engineers or any of those plot-points. I feel like many people here don't understand those are two entirely separate things to take issue with.

Yes, I want them to. It wouldn't be boring to sit through a movie that long; this movie could have benefited so much more from a Director's Cut.

You continue to defend these obvious plot holes or laziness in writing by saying myself and others who agree have no imagination, but don't share your own thoughts on it to enlighten us-- I mean, since I have no imagination, right?

If you're not going to share details like the previous two users did, then don't bother replying. Talking to you is like asking questions about this movie as it plays on screen-- Pointless.

Good day.

Dude don't get mad at me. I am not the one who made Prometheus. lol

It seems to me that you think you can do a lot better job at making movie than the legendary Sir Ridley Scott.

Besides I never said you don't have imagination. I said you're not using it.

Glad to see the full specs have finally been announced...

Not glad to see that if I want to watch the cool special features, I have to buy the 3D combo pack. I hate it when studios do this; trying to push the 3D combo packs on us if we want special features

Thank you. One poster understands how to properly debate one's misunderstanding. Instead of bashing practically spewing out, "LOL U HAS NO IMAGINATION BRO LOL GO TO IMAGINATION STORE; HERE'S A COUPON."

So you're saying that what I mentioned about reading earlier was right, then?
[Show spoiler]The rise of our own made religion upset them? The fact that the statues of them show some sort of the Engineers having their own religion? Did it upset them that we didn't follow theirs? Where's the evidence they were present after our creation to prove that, if that's even what they wanted?

Those last two questions, I can find to be more appropriate along the lines of what you guys are saying-- I mean,
[Show spoiler]the last few lines were practically saying Shaw was going to look for answers by taking the ship back to where it came from.
I'm going to give it one more viewing, keeping what you said in mind. I still have plenty of gripes with the writing, so the fact that the sequel is already getting a new writer is a great start.
