Default Whoa Oscar?

So during the in mermory segment of this years Oscars, ya know where they go through all the deaths of people in the film industry within the last year, I thought it was odd, well obviously they end with Heath Ledger but they don't even show Brad Renfro? Even though his death was a little darker than Heath's, they should've shown him. Just thought it was strange.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm also wondering how many people are watching the Oscars and are on this forum at the same time....like me?

It has nothing to do with the way he died... Renfro just wasn't a member of AMPAS. The 'In Memoriam' segment shows the deceased members of the Academy... not everyone who works in Hollywood. It could go on for hours if they showed everyone with any connection to Hollywood.

While a lot of very strong motion pictures and perfomances was honered at the show and rightly so, I thought that the show itself was unbelivable dull and boresome.

Javier rules! All actor awards going to European - did that ever happen before?

I personally thought Pirates 3 should've won the SFX award, but what do I know, I correctly picked only 4 winners.

It just proves that the Academy is dominated by bunch of judgmental old men with no class. Don't they realize that this is No Country for Old Men?

Glad that I'm not the only one that noticed it as well. I've always liked Roy Scheider, and was quite saddened with his passing.

Rest in peace indeed, old friend.....safe journeys.

No they did not. The cutoff date was January 31, 2008. Roy Scheider died on February 10, 2008. He will be mentioned next year. Brad Renfro was overlooked intentionally.

I didn't know the cutoff date was January 31st. Thank you for clarifying that, Big Daddy.

cut off date sounds kinda harsh.

Academy Members: How many times do we have to tell you? If you don't die by Jan. 31rst you dont get to be mentioned!

Hollywood Guy: aw! I dont want to die yet!

AM: TO BAD!

Um...I found it odd that they would place Heath Ledger last and not Ingmar Bergman.

Default overlooked

Another person overlooked was Luciano Pavarotti and I know that he is a singer but did star in Yes Gorgio (Hollywood Movie) had a screen actors guild card. But just because its Pavarotti he should have been recognized, Oscars ****ed up

The mindset of the show is towards modern audiences. While Ingmar Bergman had an infinitely greater impact on cinema than Ledger did, the latter's star status and early death would leave a greater emotional impact on the average viewer.
