Thanks for the replies! I DID NOT realize the theatrical is the 'directors.' I'll make sure I watch that version then as I have planned on re-watching it around Prometheus.

He's sort of become the poster boy for "Director's Cuts", and it seems like the studios have been wanting him to do it all the time, even when he's been given final cut. I'm actually impressed that he's stuck by his guns for Prometheus, even if I think some of the scenes could have gone back in.

Can someone please refresh me with the theatrical cut of Alien? Isn't there some continuity issue that doesn't work with the Director's cut or something? Which is why the theatrical is preferred... (scratches head)
Dallas gets cocooned in one of the cut scenes but there is no queen alien. It still works as the single alien could have don this UNTIL James Cameron showed us the queen in aliens, then that scene doesn't work anymore.

In case anyone was wondering, this is the packaging I was talking about:
I made a thread on this very same issue. Telling them to pack it in a box won't do a thing, trust me. Your best bet is to order another blu-.ray with it. The thread:

If it's two blu-rays, I'm guaranteed a cardboard box, right? Or will Amazon put both blu-rays in a yellow envelope?

Or the "assembly cut", whatever they're calling the Special Edition.

Have you ever contacted Amazon CS before? You're lucky if they know what a box is.

I have complained numerous times to amazon about the stupid bubble mailers.Like most times it does absolutely nothing.Amazon only cares about saving on shipping so they have gotten cheap like every other online retailer.I rarely get boxes anymore on any of my orders. Most items arrive poorly packaged with little too no protection at all.It is so bad now that I rarely buy from amazon anymore.

They replied saying that they will forward the email to their shipping department. So we'll see how things go from there.

You can leave packaging feedback with each order as well.

I had no idea what this movie is about so I pulled up the trailer:

I also found a synopsis (don't look if you can't handle it):

[Show spoiler]
Quote:
In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers.

Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Genre: Science Fiction
Director: Ridley Scott
Cast: Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace
Release Date: June 8, 2012

Sounds interesting and I like Ridley Scott so I will blind buy the 3D BD at Best Buy next Tuesday using the Upgrade and Save coupon offer. Granted, Target's exclusive slipcase version is very cool as well, but I'm going for the better price point at BB.

I strongly urge anyone who hasn't seen the film yet, and who hasn't already seen the above trailer, to avoid watching said trailer. It spoils so much of the film, and also makes the film look more Alien-ish than it actually is. Watch the shorter teaser if you must (while it also makes the film look too much like Alien, it at least doesn't spoil anything) - but stay away from this trailer at all costs.

So, just so I am 100% clear: the Target 3D exclusive is the only version that has the circular design cover art and slip box? The BB 3D is the standard stone face silhouette?

(Sorry for the crappy descriptors, haven't seen the movie yet. Intentionally waited for the BD release.)

I believe you have it correct, Danchez.

WOW! I am glad I am not the only one who has NOT seen Prometheus. We should hook up and watch it together! My 3D screen is 55-inches (passive). How big is yours? Whoever has the bigger one has to host and the other has to bring the snacks and cocktails!

The Target covers have the exact same design as the regular ones. The ONLY difference will be that they are slipboxes instead of slipcovers.

None of the US editions feature the stone face cover design.

LOL. It seems we're at a stalemate, since mine is also a 55-inch!

Either way, I'm so excited to finally see this, but I really don't know which version I'm gonna wind up choosing. The BB version would be ridiculously cheap with the U&S discount and my RZ certificates, but I feel like this movie deserves an exclusive, limited set like the Target version.

Edit:

Ohh, okay! Thanks for the info, Aragorn. That actually makes the decision a bit easier for me!
