No one in this world want's to be lonely, we all need something, someone to make our live's seem worth while, to have meaning. Nobbs was really no different. It may not be a movie I will want to see again but I would tell people that they should see it. It's a bit slow and maybe nothing ground breaking but still interesting to see.
I really want to see this. Also, I really do NOT want to see this.

I absolutely love Glen Close. I think she is a fantastic actress.

But there is something about how much she looks like a man that gives me the willies. It's kind of eerie.

It's usually the problem with many of these cross gender movie. They either make the woman look so weird that you just go or they just leave her alone like what they did for Mulan with Zhao Wei and you are left wondering, sure everyone think she is a guy

The movie is not bad really, at least not as bad as I feared it would be but it's really nothing amazing either

Cinderella (1950)

It's pretty hard to make them better than what Disney did back 50 plus years ago. Yes Disney still make good movies and still as top notch animation but nostalgia aside, it's difficult for many of today's animation to go head to head with old Disney. Last time I saw Cinderella was actually on VHS because I never got the DVD. My last VHS broke down in 2003 so it's been a while. The Blu-ray look's amazing even if I am sure some people will complaint that it's not that great (starting to think it's the favorite hobby of some in this forum).

Masters Of The Universe (1987)

He as the POWER!

Even if I was well into my teens by the time He-man came around in the 80's I actually enjoyed watching the animated series. I kept on watching the other series made later as well. Sure this movie is full of cheese, typical 80's scifi soundtracks and a script that could have been done by a 6 years old, still I enjoy this movie. Call it nostalgia it is still a fun movie to watch.

I was really surprise by the Blu-ray, quite a nice release.

I tried to rent it some years ago. I couldn't make it past the first twenty minutes. It was...too much...CHEESE!

Default A Movie A Day: Day 166

Je T'aime, Je T'aime (1968)
dir. Alain Resnais
The Good: Powerful, understated performances by Claude Rich and the gorgeous Olga Georges-Picot. Resnais' ideas and themes are quite fascinating. Like a cross between La Jetée and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which, unsurprisingly, Michel Gondry claims as an inspiration for his film).

The Bad: Time travel is very wonky; it serves as a metaphor rather than a plausible device.

The Bottom Line: Overlooking the whole physics of the film, Je T'aime, Je T'aime is a profound, poetic, and, at times, ingenious exploration of memory, loss, time, and destiny. Recommended for fans of Resnais, the two aforementioned films, and existential movies.

The 6th Day (2000)

THis was a first time viewing for me. I am not a huge fan of the governator and outside of Conan I really haven't seen much of his movies. I have the Conan movies because it's Conan. I would have them even if Danny DeVito was playing Conan The movie was interesting but it's funny I felt it was a sort of a clone of Total Recall. I suppose it's the typical Arnold movie with action and cheesy one liner. Can't say I hated it but doubt I will bother seeing it again.

The Muppets

Wasn't going to do a write up for the film, but since I'm in for a long train ride, I might as well write something.

Basically I really liked it, it treated kids with brains, and showed just how easy it is to make a kids film without belittling them as an audience, using jokes that would work well for kids and adults alike. And shows what genuine care for a source material can work itself into.

Some of the meta jokes don't work all that well, and it's a shame Disney couldn't keep there corporate fingers off it and placed billboards for Cars 2 all over the place just for the sake of some extra DVD sales. But for the most part it really really works.

You would think so.

I thought so when I first saw it. I wound up seeing it like four more times afterward and wound up liking it more. Now I count it as a guilty pleasure.

Speaking of Arnold clones, I was suddenly reminded of this metal band that does funny Arnold-themed songs. One of their skits kinda ripped on this movie, and it was pretty funny :

Hiroshima mon amour (1959)

The movie is a simple one, it's nothing more than a series of conversation (or you may even say one long conversation) between a French woman and a Japanese man. They had a brief affair together and now they face separation. I last saw this movies years ago. I am not a big fan of the French new waves unlike so many other Americans. You have to understand that French cinema for most people of Quebec is just cinema, not much foreign about it compared to the rest of the world. One thing that I find annoying in French drama that I over lok or forgive in comedies or action...is the over acting. French actors are very bad at that, they over act too much, force it too much at time. In movies like this one it just does not past for me.

A note of the HD, it look great. I think that once Criterion release this on Blu-ray fans of the movie will be very happy.

I am sure won't see it again. Don't forget I am not a fan or Arnold as well which really does not leave much for me to want to see it again

Yes. But my only point, one of a heckling nature, was that (B) and (C) are the same. : Nothing more, nothing less. There is nothing of substance or quality in my original post. Its just me being a condescending weasel while correcting your post for the sake of a laugh. I have no valid argument nor can I offer an intelligent comment. I find overacting across all genres from that time. It was common for actors to come from a theatrical background, and those movements sometimes don't translate well on-screen.

Default Frankenweenie

For those of you who might be interested in Frankenweenie (released in theaters tomorrow), here is the 1984 short it is based on by Tim Burton. Some might notice a few familiar faces.

FYI: This short is included in the special features of the original blu-ray release of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

What I mean is that I don't mind in comedies or action but for some reason the over acting in French movie dramas just drive me up the wall. I just can't manage to deal with it or accept it for some reason only in that those movies, not sure why

United Kingdom Snow White and the Huntsman

Being a bit late to the party on this one, I managed to watch it last night - just before my pre-ordered CE gets here. To be honest, I'd heard mixed things about it so I was a bit apprehensive, but I was pleasantly surprised by the end product. The production and release, so overshadowed by the announcement of the affair between star Kristen Stewart and director Rupert Sanders, was one that seemed to be long and difficult - with the film reportedly going over budget, amongst other problems. You get no sense of these problems when watching it, though - an impressive, both visually and stylistically, re-telling of the Snow White fairytale, it completely dwarfs the similar Mirror Mirror by comparison; Hemsworth, fresh from Avengers, is superb in the tough, yet emotive, supporting role, and Stewart - dare I say it - is actually good in the lead. First-time helmer Sanders controls the action well and the plot, although slim and fragile, is even and taut throughout; it isn't boring and it certainly isn't terrible, like some suggest. Simply an action-packed fairytale epic with not much substance, but a hell of a lot of style.
