As long as it's a better packaging than the horrendous train wreck that was the Marilyn Collection , I'm day one buying!!

It sounds like this will be a nice set though, so I am hopeful. James Dean and Liz Taylor in blu=

I don't understand how they can make a 9-disc set out of 3 movies, even if there are DVD versions too... are those new documentaries all on their own discs??

Wish Marylin could have gotten this much love. I'm stoked Dean is getting the treatment he deserves.

I recall the DVD versions of the three films having quite a bit of bonus material, most of which will likely be ported over.

9-discs for three films (one of which will very likely take up two discs) and three feature-length documentaries/biopic is definitely not hard to fill.

Just one example of how it could be done.

Disc 1:
East of Eden

Disc 2:
East of Eden bonus features

Disc 3:
Rebel Without a Cause

Disc 4:
Rebel Without a Cause bonus features

Disc 5:
Giant, Part 1

Disc 6:
Giant, Part 2

Disc 7:
Giant Bonus Features

Disc 8:
Forever Young & Sense Memories

Disc 9:
TNT Biopic

Just hope they are not packed in cardboard sleeves in some over-sized plastic head of James Dean, or something like that.

I hope the Collectors edition comes with the digi-books.

Default James Dean Ultimate Collector's Edition and individual digibooks

An early announcement to press outlets from Warner Bros. reveals the upcoming release of all 3 James Dean films. East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause and Giant complete the the young influential actor's film career and are making their way to Blu-ray for the very first time. Each film is currently being remastered for individual Blu-ray DigiBook releases as well as a trio compilation titled the James Dean Ultimate Collector's Edition. The collection includes exclusive memorabilia, a hardcover book and documentary featurettes. The James Dean Ultimate Collector's Edition and each individual DigiBook will be released in Q2 2013.

East of Eden - In the Salinas Valley, in and around World War I, Cal Trask (Dean), feels he must compete against overwhelming odds with his brother Aron for the love of their father Adam. Cal is frustrated at every turn, from his reaction to the war, to how to get ahead in business and in life, to how to relate to estranged mother.

Rebel Without a Cause - Jim Stark (Dean) is the new kid in town. He has been in trouble elsewhere; that's why his family has had to move before. Here he hopes to find the love he doesn't get from his middle-class family. Though he finds some of this in his relation with Judy, and a form of it in both Plato's adulation and Ray's real concern for him, Jim must still prove himself to his peers in switchblade knife fights and "chickie" games in which cars race toward a seaside cliff.

Giant - Texan rancher Bick Benedict (Dean) visits a Maryland farm to buy a prize horse. Whilst there he meets and falls in love with the owner's daughter Leslie, they are married immediately and return to his ranch. The story of their family and its rivalry with cowboy and (later oil tycoon) Jett Rink unfolds across two generations.

I'm curious to see the packaging for the box set. I always get paranoid in regards to how the discs will be supported. If it doesn't do the job for me, I have no problem buying the individual digibooks since those always look really nice on a shelf.

I really like digibooks...but I'm interested in the biopic as well. I hope the CE packaging is nice enough to persuade me.

Yep, I have the original pressing of the Giant DVD and it says 1.66:1 to preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio.

Fair warning: Giant has some sections of notorious Warner Color dupes (similar to Dial M for Murder), so while it should outshine the old non-anamorphic DVD by a mile, it will probably have troublesome sections.
