There is supposed to be an interview with a certian season 2 doctor on this set. I have to laugh a little. She says it was not the best experience and that the cast was out for themselves. Let's look at this for a second. First, she was never in the opening credits, always as a "guest star". might make the main cast a little stand-offish towards someone if they are getting a different credit than the rest of the cast who already have put in a year on the show. Also, they wanted a chracter who was a little more rough around the edges. First episode - she goes to see Troi in Ten-Forward instead of reporting to the captian. now Troi isn't dying, the ship isn't in trouble, nothing is going on that can't wait an hour while she goes and says hi to the captian yet she doesn't. good to know your main doctor is an expert at prioritizing. ![]() |

KPCC's Off Ramp program - has a feature on CBS' Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu-ray remastering effort. At the end of the interview for first time in public, there's the suggestion made that if demand is there and the TNG Blu-rays all sell well - CBS may continue their BD remastering/upgrade effort on to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. If the rest of the seasons sell well that looks good for more Trek series to hit blu-ray. DS9 & Voyager will probably be more of an effort since they relied heavily on CGI. That is why I have no qualms with buying each season of TNG as they come out. The more people that hold-out for the hope of $20-$30 per season may have an indefinite wait if CBS decides it is not getting a return on their investment and stops with TNG or before all seven TNG seasons are done.
The left side of the page has the option to listen/download the interview. http://www.scpr.org/programs/offramp...-up-restorati/ |

from the interview at Trek Core they are saying they are considering DS9!
My teenage son has been into DS9 in a big way for the last year, watching it on Netflix instant in low res, which is sometimes frustrating after the amazing clarity of TNG on blu-ray. Anyway, we are now at the last season of DS9--#7. I never watched much of it back in the day, and I had no idea that they did an EPIC 10 part finale. We are on part 8 right now. I think DS9 had the most amazing finish of any of the Star Trek shows. It's like a series of movies..... There are so many things and characters to enjoy about it that it's hard to pick any favorites, but of the baddies the Weyoun Clone guy(s) (all of them!) is/are great. He's so creepy, but he really makes me laugh. The whole show is quite impressive. Would love to see it on blu-ray and would definitely buy. Next Gen fans like me who never got fully into DS9 back in the day should give it a try. It's a show that started a little stronger than next gen, and just kept slowly building right up until the end. The Seventh year is the best, but every season has a lot of good episodes. from Trek Core TrekCore: Last time we heard from you guys at Comic Con, DS9 was officially “on your radar” for remastering. Ryan gave a beautifully cryptic quote that CBS were “considering it”. How are plans moving along? We have a constant stream of emails, with hundreds of fans asking about it. Ryan Adams: See, well that’s wonderful! Here’s the thing, David and I would love nothing more than to segue from TNG into DS9 and all of them to be honest with you. We’re having a blast doing this. And when I see that we engage with the fans, I love the fact that they’re writing in. In order for us to go to John Nogawski, Scott Koondel – the decision makers, let’s call them – and get an approval for this, we need that kind of stuff behind us. We need to be able to say “The fans are screaming for this. This is what they want next.” And like we said at Comic Con too, it would really depend on – because let’s be honest, it’s financial as well for the studio – on how well TNG does. And since it’s doing well thus far, David and I are still very hopeful that [DS9] will be one of the next big projects that we do. So our hope is “yes”, but we still have to get the decision makers to say yes. TrekCore: So there’s been no official green light yet? Ryan Adams: No, there’s no official green light on DS9 yet. TrekCore: Fans need to keep writing then, that’s good to know! Ryan Adams: Keep writing, and keep buying TNG. David Grant: The more you buy TNG, the more you get DS9! Put it that way! It actually does have some classic episodes. In both seasons 1 & 2 the show was getting its sea (uh, space) legs, but there are definitely a fair number of good episodes and a few great ones.
For instance, there's Time Squared, which is an essential Captain Picard episode featuring as you might imagine time travel. This is like a spectacular and grim Twilight Zone episode in space. I can't wait to see the special effects for this one. Plus, Patrick Stewart knocks it out of the park playing two roles.... Then there's The Measure of a Man. Data's life is on the line. This is one of the best episodes of the whole show. Won't say more. But there's even a special extended edition of this show with about 12 minutes of footage that's never been seen before, because some of it had to be cut out for length reasons. Are there some mediocre episodes? Yes. And is Dr. Crusher missing this season. Yes. But I would still call it an essential season. And I think I still like it a little bit more than the first season. But it's true that it wasn't until the 3rd season that the show really hit its stride.... Last edited by benbess; 10-07-2012 at 01:44 AM. |

A little background from wikipedia.... Nurse Ratched (also known as "Big Nurse") is a fictional character and the main antagonist of Ken Kesey's 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, as well as the 1975 film. A cold, heartless tyrant, Nurse Ratched has become the stereotype of the nurse as a battleaxe. She has also become a popular metaphor for the corrupting influence of power and authority in bureaucracies such as the mental institution in which the novel is set.... Louise Fletcher won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Nurse Ratched in the film. Nurse Ratched was named the fifth greatest villain in film history by the American Film Institute in their series 100 Years... 100 Heroes & Villains. Last edited by benbess; 10-07-2012 at 02:40 AM. |

Louise Fletcher does an excellent job playing baddie Winn Adami on Star Trek: Deep Space 9....
from wikipedia: Winn Adami Kai Winn Adami held the title of "Vedek" during the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, and claimed to have been beaten for her religious teachings. She had a contemptuous attitude toward Bajorans who fought in the underground resistance cells, because she felt she did not get proper credit for helping to fight for Bajor's liberation. She was played by Louise Fletcher. Winn makes her first appearance objecting to the teachings of Keiko O'Brien in the Deep Space Nine school, in the episode "In the Hands of the Prophets." In particular, she objects to Keiko's teaching of only the scientific information about the Bajoran wormhole, instead of teaching the religious mythos regarding it. Winn views the science-based teachings as blasphemy, and eventually her influence results in all of the Bajoran students being pulled from the school. Later, a bomb is detonated inside the school. Commander Benjamin Sisko meets with Vedek Bareil on Bajor and asks him to reprimand Winn before she stirs up more violence, but he declines to enter into the conflict. Winn also directs one of her supporters to assassinate Bareil, who is Winn's chief rival in the Vedek Assembly. The failed assassination attempt is made during a speech Bareil is giving calling for an end to conflicts over the school. Winn's involvement, although suspected by Major Kira Nerys, is never proven. Ever the ambitious opportunist, Winn later aligned herself with an extremist group called "The Circle." The Circle's goal was to eliminate all external influences from Bajor, including the Federation, which would have served Winn's purposes in getting rid of Commander Sisko, whom she resented as the Emissary of the Prophets. The reward for her support would have been the guarantee of becoming Kai.... Last edited by benbess; 10-07-2012 at 02:45 AM. |

TrekCore: So Season 1 has been out a couple of months now – how are CBS feeling about sales figures? Are you happy with it? David Grant: Oh yeah. The DVDs sold, I think what they estimated for a couple of months, or a month or so, [for the blu-rays] sold in a week. TrekCore: Oh wow! David Grant: Yes, with preorders. And Season 2 should be just as big coming out December 4th. And from knowing the series, and the storylines, it just gets better as the series goes on. |

Yeah Seasons 1+2 are especially weak TNG seasons but I prefer Season 2 over Season 1.
Season 1 ha only "Encounter at Farpoint" which I really enjoy. Aside from that "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and maybe "The Neutral Zone" aren't bad, too. Season 2 has "Time Squared" (great!), "QWho?" (great nd the first Borg episode!) and "The Measure of a Man" (a classic and again great!). I'm not sure how much I will like the following today but back in the day I thought that "Unnatural Selection" and "Samaritan Snare" were enjoyable episodes, too. |

![]() But believe it or not, there are quite a few fans who appreciate Dr. Pulaski. I liked that she brought some conflict and grit to the show. She was not the 'perfect evolved human being' like the rest of the (human) characters, but had to overcome some bigotry towards Data for example. She also went against Picard when she felt it was called for ("Unnatural Selection"). While Crusher was much easier on the eyes, I think she's definitely a blander character than Pulaski. |
