...nice to see Swamp Water finally receiving some serious cineaste attention and appreciation. Next to Rapture, Jean Renoir's lost American masterpiece is the most undeservedly neglected title in TT's collection.
I was particularly glad they picked up on Swamp Water's John Ford trappings...I noticed a distinct John Huston vibe there as well. This film was a total surprise for me, although I suppose it shouldn't have been considering its filmmaker made two of my all-time favourites, La règle du jeu and La Grande Illusion. I guess I'm just baffled why "Renoir in America" took this long to surface...and I'm still surprised that Criterion never went after it. But at least it finally got done, and done exceptionally well. Lovers of 40s black and white will be especially rewarded. For all the recent 'sturm und drang' over TT's 80s horror output, I still think it's all this *lost* film arcana that TT has been quietly doing such a superb job exhuming from the vaults, which will eventually be what this label is most lauded for, and ultimately treasured. Coincidentally, I just watched Swamp Water again last night and was even more impressed than my first viewing. For anyone with an adventurous cinematic bent, this is one of the most amazing titles you'll ever buy blind. |

I think black and white has never looked better than in Rapture, Swamp Water, and The Wayward Bus. All three are positively stunning. Rapture and Swamp Water are definitely fantastic blind buys, for anyone who has an appreciation for well acted dramas with just enough suspense and danger to keep things interesting. Rapture is the film that made me take notice of Twilight Time, a completely unknown film, blind buy, and it floored me with how good it is. |

One thing, though, the review says it is released by Arrow. I thought it was being released by Severin. Last edited by oildude; 10-08-2012 at 05:33 AM. |

Apologies to the board for continuing this sidebar subject, but I really wanted to pre-order The Wild Geese Blu-ray Blu2u. Yet Amazon lists only Arrow's U.K. Region B version, and a label search on ImportCDs no longer shows any results. Even when I clicked on Severin's own Store, it threw an error. Any idea how to get through with an order for this title?

Has anyone from overseas received their NOTLD and Enemy Mine orders yet? I'm in Australia and didn't take the insurance for the first time so am sort of worrying that they won't turn up now.
By the way, if you do get the insurance, but your package doesn't show up... what happens if it's a title they've sold out of? Do they have a certain amount of extra copies for replacements and reviewers? |
