I'll get stuff in other countries if it's not available here yet... I bought the Nightmare on Elm Street boxed set from the UK, and Cleopatra as well. I've 'imported' tons of stuff from Canada (if you can call that importing), and just recently purchased the Happinet (Japanese) release of Night of the Living Dead (which was only about $23 including shipping). But yeah, T2... or almost any single movie for that matter... $60+ is a tad steep.

Does anyone know if there is gonna be a new Terminator 2 Bluray? (since terminator was released again).
i was thinking of buying the skynet edition (although I'm much afraid about the freezing and slow menus etc.), but i hate to buy it and another release coming out in a year or so!

Not certain, but based on how excited James Cameron was about the work that went into the Aliens Blu Ray, I would not be surprised if his remaining movies like The Abyss, Terminator 2 and True Lies received the same kind of remaster.

Just my 2 cents though!

It's hard to say if/when a new T2 will come out, but I think that it can be safe to say that the fact that T1 one was remastered doesn't really have any effect on whether T2 will as well since they are owned by separate studios who subsequently pay for the restoration.

So finally got my player hooked up to the internet.
Put a USB drive in since my player requires it and was able to get it to download something and after several minutes got some sort of map, no menu that I could tell and pressed OK. That disappeared and all I got was a black screen.

What a dumb way to author a disc.

If I can't get this thing to work I think I'll sell it and just stick with my playable DVDs.

Not sure if it was addressed in thread, but how does that Japanese blu fare against the old German HD DVD? I remember that one getting a lot of hype and rave but never owned it.

They are similar on surface, but when you look closer/zoom in, the Japanese has way fewer compression artifacts. The first Optimum UK is better than the German HD-DVD as well.

The best version of Terminator 2 is the Skynet edition. Yes, it has mild DNR, but all print damage has been cleaned up/restored (just like all of the dirt has been cleaned up in this Lowry remaster of The Terminator), and it has the best encode out of any release with no compression artifacts, banding, etc. Plus is has the very best extras and all three cuts of the movie via seamless branching.

Until we get a 4K Lowry scan for a possible conversion to 3D, what else can one ask for at this time?

Even though the Skynet Edition has all 3 cuts, all the extras and a great sound mix, it isn't the best in terms of picture quality. The U.K. Optimum disc and the Japanese Premium Edition have the best picture quality as they haven't been DNR'ed. The picture quality on both these discs is virtually identical

Negative. The extended edition on the skynet release is no different then the optium UK release minus the DNR.

If Lionsgate is anything like Artisan, we'll see another T2 Blu-ray at some point. How many times was it released on DVD? Three? Stargate got released like a billion times.

Except for repackages, next time we see it on Blu is remastered completely, Titanic & Aliens and T1 like. Trust me.

No it isn't. The HD-DVD version is slightly sharper with a bit more detail then the Optimum UK Blu-Ray version and its also better then the Skynet Edition as well. In fact You can compare the HD-DVD to both the Optimum UK Blu-Ray and the Skynet Edition here - http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl..._button=Search

In fact with the possible exception of the rare Japanese Premium Edition Blu-Ray, the HD-DVD is probably the best HD representative of T2 out there. Not that its saying much because the HD-DVD and the Japanese Premium edition, like multiple different DVD releases (since about 2000) and the other 2 Blu-Ray versions, all source from the same outdated master scan.

Its safe to say that polishing a turd with even more digital tricks like EE, DNR, colour filtering, contrast boosting etc will no longer surface for a future release, a remaster must be in order.

USA New to Blu-ray.com, T2 w/German audio?

Seeking Blu-ray with ENG/DEU audio/subtitle. A Blu-ray of T2 with English & German audio tracks is the specific item. The Skynet Edition sounds like the option that compiled most everything that's been released together onto 1 purchase, so that sounds like the one. It needs to be playable on a Region 1A PS3 also.

So how to find a region A1+ disk that'll play on PS3 fat(not the 1st PS3, but the version that looks like a taller PS3 slim) is the question?

Thanks for any response, even insults!

Yep, the same old master's been doing the rounds for 10 years and it needs to be put out to pasture. Can't see it happening any time soon though.

Even though I don't like the StudioCanal sound mix, I think I'll have to rebuy the original Optimum/SC UK version because its encode (along with the French theatrical version) is the best of a mediocre bunch. The Skynet is just too filtered and even the JP premium edition appears to be a tiny bit softer than the StudioCanal encode(s).

I still think it's extremely weird that Studio Canal have shelled out the dough for a phenomenal 4K scan of Total Recall, essentially a cult film but not for Terminator 2, which is basically one of the biggest movies of all time. It really makes no sense.

I don't think Terminator 2 is all that bad.. Picture quality and sound seem pretty good to me.
