Guess I'll include it in my BN sale list.

Now you just boot up the computer and you can go anywhere, but back then, everything had to be built by hand, just amazing...
I love that about ye olden days of cinema as well, especially the silent period. Those sets were particularly extravagant.

In the Mood for Love looks nice on blu-ray. Not exactly a knock-out PQ-wise but quite good. The film is a knock-out though

Does anyone know if a special offer of Criterion blu rays will be coming up with Barnes and Noble? If so, when is it going to occur?

Lena Dunham scores 7 figure book deal:

Congrats to her. Regardless of what you think of her work (and I haven't even seen it) it's a nice accomplishment.

Blu-ray.com gave it a 3.5/5 for PQ.

DVDTalk gave it 5/5 for PQ.

DVDBeaver said the PQ is "magnificent".

HTF gave it a 5/5 for PQ.

Hurm.

The site also gave low marks to Dial M For Murder, while most others (including Robert Harris) give it pretty high recommendations.

Mrs Drbikeshorts and I have watched almost of all Girls and we love it. Hysterical and clever show.
Congratulations to her.

This is such a frustrating dilemma.
Les Enfants du Paradis was going to be a blind-buy for me, but now I'm not sure.
It wouldn't surprise me if the outcry has been loud enough for Criterion to come back to this at sometime in the future...
In the meantime, this is really my only opportunity...

The cover artwork for The Blue Angel is incredible!
I'll be getting at least this and the Sacha Guitry film.

I hear you. I placed my DVD copy in my 'for sale' pile the moment I heard it was coming to BD. Now, I think I shall just keep it and drop the idea about upgrading.

I got to say, this has somewhat shattered my believe in Criterion's standards. I have bought Criterions since 1995 on three different media and have always hold them in very high esteem, even though they of course have had small slip-ups every now and then like all companies. But the very thought that they have released something so obviously wrong and altered like the Children of Paradise BD really has destroyed a lot of the confidence I used to put in them. They should have dropped the release, gone back and told Pathé they couldn't because it would tarnish their reputation.

If contracts and deals were already in place, there's not much they can do. They were contracted to release it; the master they got was decent (not as bad as many of the reviews) but not perfect. Their hands are tied at this point.

Criterion seems to love the work Pathe did on the film - even more so than the expected we'll never criticize our own work. They've made it known on their web site.

ShellOilJunior mentioned earlier it looked quite good. 3.5 is just that to me. I don't know what sort of a background the HTF reviewer has, but from my personal experience I'd trust Svet's expertise especially in foreign cinema more than any of those other review sites listed above.
