And maybe all of this is just wishful thinking on my part.
True, but trying to stack it up against a release like "Blade Runner" isn't fair, since the work that went into that package is on the other end of the spectrum (the "extreme-overhaul" end ), a type of treatment which only a handful of HD releases have ever received thus far.

Bottom line IMO; while the current Blu (and HD-DVD for that matter) of "Enter the Dragon" isn't going to win any awards for "best video and audio quality ever" on a home-video release, it looks and sounds good enough to be left alone...And again, if Warner has the money to sink into a remastering of "ETD," I'd so much rather see them alot that $ to releasing another catalog title in their archives that we haven't yet seen in HD...

Valid points overall, especially since Blade Runner is indeed a more respected film than ETD. I'm very curious to see what WB comes up with in "Quarter 2" of next year. Hopefully those dissuading the idea of a new transfer won't be saying "told you so"

I don't think "Blade Runner" deserves any more (or any less) respect than "Enter the Dragon," it just happens to be one of those special-effects-laden extravaganzas that was beautifully shot, had all sorts of different versions and controversy surrounding it, as well as a rabid cult following. So from a marketing viewpoint, the reasons for sinking the time and money into that film made a little more sense...Personally, I still think "Enter the Dragon" is a better movie, but that's all a matter of opinion.

As for a new transfer on "Enter the Dragon," looks like we'll have to wait and see...I just hope people aren't disappointed (and they shouldn't be), if it ends up being the currently available disc, repackaged.

I think the bigger disappointment would be the lack of the theatrical cut... ETD will become the Star Wars of martial arts films in that case

...Yes, I know many people want the TC as well as the current version, but they're so similar, I personally consider it a non-issue. It'd be one thing if all sorts of stuff was changed (like "Star Wars" or "Blade Runner"), but the differences are so minimal, it's really not worth making a big deal out of it IMO...

It's more of a completist thing, than anything else. Two scenes and four musical alterations should warrant two individual cuts As of now, the only way to get the theatrical cut in widescreen is on laserdisc... which, I have, of course

Glad to hear it ...Well, I hope for the sake of fans like yourself (if this film does indeed get a remaster), that you get your wish ...

For me it's nostalgia.

I *****ed like mad for the Abbot scene to be included but it just gets in the way. If it was Lee's voice, then cool, but it's not.

Bottom line, I first saw the theatrical cut on ITV in 1985 and I want it back with immediate effect.

Could someone please post some screenshots of problems with the old BD? As someone else posted, I thought it looked really good. It would be interesting to see what could be improved.

kinda remember the lip synching being off on the previous release and even if they just fixed that i think we would be really happy just to have a nice AQ & VQ and the old features from the old Anniversary edition.

Seconded. The first release was just plain awful, sure an upgrade over the DVD but was not a fan!

Just look at the screenshots on the pro-review on the site here...aliasing is noticeable to one extent or another in almost all of them, but here's a few where it's easiest to spot:

Lee's collar, face, and clothing edges

Face and clothing edges

Edges all around (uniforms especially) and again, faces

Well, that is certainly improveable. I had to check with my region B disc and yep, exactly the same.

And *that* is why it needs a new transfer... JAGGIES! I believe this was the same issue with the first two Lethal Weapon blu-rays prior to the collection.

BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS!

This film is every bit important to some MA Movie fans as is STAR WARS is to some Sci-Fi geeks.
Respect.

Just watched it. Defiantly needs a new transfer, and a lossless track.

They had a lot more problems than just aliasing.

Take it easy there Dragon ...Did you not read any of my previous posts? I find "Enter the Dragon" a better film than all the "Star Wars" movies and "Blade Runner" combined. All I'm trying to say is that there's not quite as large of a fanbase for ETD as there is for those other movies, and that the current Blu-ray is acceptable. Sure, it could be better, but so could a lot of other movies that have been released on HD. Yet, so very few of them actually get remastered.

I would actually be more than surprised if this did not receive a new transfer for the upcoming BD. Or at least a corrected one. Warner have been slowly redoing all those transfers that were affected like ETD. The Fugitive is coming in a newer transfer, I guess for its 20th anniversary next year.

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling on this, I won't be.
