They'll release it this year. Hopefully it will be in seperates. I don't think they'll make their goal of THD by summer.

It's great we'll be spared that abomination, but it really sucks HD-DVD will get it first. Oh well, I'd say it's a suitable compromise.

Hopefully this article is correct. On the positive side the Matrix well arrive on BLU-RAY and is not going to be HD-DVD excusive. I hope the Matrix is not released on a combo DVD/HD-DVD disc. If the Matrix is only released on HD-DVD instead of combo it will be easier to track how many HD-DVD owners are buying the product. The problem with combo discs is some of the uneducated public are purchasing combo discs and playing them on standard DVD players thinking they are getting HDTV quality. Especially now with RCA selling a 1080P up convert HDMI DVD player for under $50.

Warner sure is trying their best to keep hd-dvd on life support aren't they. Maybe they will give us a higher bitrate video encode instead of using the hd-dvd one.

That's probably why it's being released after HD-DVD, they are going to finish HD-DVD and then copy it over to BD :-(
OR......they want better quality out of BD, so they are rushing HD-DVD, and taking their time and putting better quality into Blu.........
hmmmmmm.........which is it?

I honestly believe they are releasing HD-DVD first to give the format a boost. Me guesses that MS bank account is a little lighter today.

Which will be most interesting considering there is only a 99 and 119 dollar versions. How many zealots are really willing spend that kind of money?

The "MS bank account" stuff makes me cringe as its incredibly ridiculous.

If this becomes an official announcement, the reason will be announced as waiting in-movie experience to be available on BD. So much for ending format war. BD has dropped the ball in not getting this feature out sooner.

All of them. It will probably street around $80. Warner is probably waiting for the new players that support IME to come out before they release the BD versions.

Actually, I think this is bad news for bd ... though having said that, I don't think it will attract that many new customers to the format as they will probably be unlikely to drop $200-300 on a hd-dud player and then another $100 on the Matrix collection just so they can watch it in HD asap. Most of the sales will be limited to the existing userbase... and that still isn't that much.

Warner could've given a date for the bd at least.

Matrix Collections Coming to HD DVD

The HD DVD format gets a major boost May 22 when Warner Home Video releases The Ultimate Matrix Collection and The Complete Matrix Trilogy for $119.99 and $99.99, respectively.

The special editions, which include HD DVD releases of The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, collectively comprise 8 discs and more than 35 hours of bonus material, in addition to three “Revisited” mini-features.

Both releases include HD DVD’s In-Movie Experience (IME) interactive feature.

The Matrix trilogy stars truth-seekers Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) battling human-killing machines in a post-apocalyptic world.

The Matrix — released 12 times on DVD — was the first disc to sell 1 million units and has generated $1 billion in worldwide revenue since its 1999 theatrical release, according to WHV.

The studio plans to release “Matrix” titles on Blu-ray Disc later this year.

If the Matrix Trilogy announcement circulating today is true (out on hd-dvd long before BD) Warner's answer is likely to be that they are waiting on the In-movie-experience in BD. Not having this feature ready sooner and not initially knowing how Warner was going to treat this feature (required for release) are probably unavoidable items now but people seeing that they have to have HD-DVD to watch The Matrix is the first of the mistakes that will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. It's unfortunate.

Warner always seems like they favor hddvd for some reason. Just as long as the quality is good and it is not to long after and like said a few posts up they should give a blu-ray release date.
